Empowering women from Chile to Rajasthan
The Council was delighted to welcome four amazing Women Solar Engineers
from Chile, during an afternoon of inspirational conversation on 15 March.
Susanna Garcia, Isabel Caripan, Silvia Huarachi and Sunilda Flores, also
known as ‘Solar Mamas’, recently completed a gruelling and rewarding 6
months solar engineering training organised by the Barefoot College in Tilonia,
Rajasthan, India. On their way back to Chile, they flew in to London to tell us
about their remarkable experience. Read more
The Future of Energy: Interview with Christoph Frei
The energy industry is being shaped by a number of risk factors, including
moves toward decentralisation and digitalisation, shifting demand and prices, as
well as sustainability as a public policy issue. As these risks shift, so do the
opportunities. Early this month in Dubai, Dr Christoph Frei, Secretary General of
the World Energy Council, spoke about the future of the energy industry during
Marsh and McLennan’s Energy Industry Conference. Marsh and their team at

Join the Council at Berlin Energy Week!
More than 3,000 participants from government, industry, the energy sector
and tech scene spanning approximately 90 countries, will gather in
Germany, during ‘Berlin Energy Week in mid-April. The SET Tech Festival,
Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue and Event Horizon, which all form part of
the Berlin Energy Week, will convene leading players, including 100 high-
level speakers in the global energy transition. The week will kick off with the
2018 Start-up Energy Transition Awards hosted by the Deutsche Energie-
Agentur (dena) – the German Energy Agency, in conjunction with the World
Energy Council. Read more
The Grand Transition: The Latin American context
The Council is excited to host its first World Energy Leaders’ Summit for 2018
and Latin American Regional conference in Bariloche, Argentina, on 12- 15
June. The event, Grand Energy Transition – The Latin American Context, will
convene global energy leaders, including H.E Juan Jose Aranguren, Minister
of Energy, who will address participants with a keynote opening speech. In a
series of high-level dialogues, participants will address topics and trends
critical to the energy sector such as ‘Regional pathways to a new and better
energy future in the face of the Grand Transition’ and ‘Preparing for disruptive
technologies and innovative business models’. Read more
