FOR RELEASE: Tuesday, May 17, 2016
Courtney Poole, who led NCAA Division II in wins this
season and Brooklynn Clark, the top hitter in the Division II
ranks this spring, head the Division II Collegiate
Commissioner’s Association All-America softball team for
the 2016 season.
Poole was named as the “Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year” for
the second year in succession after posting a 53-4 record
for the Nighthawks in 2016, breaking the Division II record
for wins in a season. She also has the third-lowest earned
run average in Division II of 0.76 and struck out 445 hitters
in 378 2/3 innings.
She is one of three North Georgia players to make the first
team, joining outfielder Stephanie Hartness and second
baseman Meredith Heyer. Hartness batted .469 on the
year and was named as the Peach Belt Athletic
Conference’s “Player of the year”, while Heyer hit .415 and
drove in 49 runs to earn first-team All-PBAC honors.
Clark, the “Ron Lenz Player of the Year”, leads NCAA
Division II in hitting with a .500 average and is second in
runs batted in with 78, as she belted 16 home runs during
the 2016 campaign. The Gulf South Conference “Player of
the Year” joins teammate Anna Gayle Norris as the first
North Alabama players to earn All-America honors on the
team selected by sports information directors since the
program began in 2007.
Norris, named as the first-team designated hitter, hit .387
during the season with 14 home runs and 64 runs batted in.
Joining Poole on the first-team pitching staff were a pair of standouts from the Great Lakes
Valley Conference, Indianapolis senior Morgan Foley and Missouri-St. Louis senior Hannah
Perryman. Foley earned the league’s “Pitcher of the Year” honor this season as she went 40-4
with a 0.85 earned run average and 497 strikeouts in 272 innings, while Perryman, who finished
her collegiate career with record totals for strikeouts (1,725) and perfect games (nine), recorded
a 45-6 record and fanned a national-high 567 hitters.
The three first-teams hurlers – the top three in the nation in strikeouts -- combined for 1,509
strikeouts in 1,012 1/3 innings, an average of 10.4 strikeouts per seven innings pitched. In
addition, utility-pitcher Lyndsey Butler of Wayne State (Mich.) fanned another 227 hitters in 226
1/3 innings and also batted .483 with 12 home runs on the year.
Including second-team pitchers Coley Ries of Minnesota State and Carley Tysinger of Catawba,
the top five pitchers in the nation in strikeouts all earned a spot on the D2CCA All-America team.
The left side of the first team infield consists of third baseman Kaitlyn Bannister of Alabama-
Huntsville, the national leader in runs batted in with 81 and Colorado Mesa shortstop Makayla
Kovac, named as the top offensive player in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference after
posting the third-highest slugging percentage in Division II at .922 with 42 extra base hits.
Top-ranked West Texas A&M had one of the other selections in the outfield in Ashley Hardin,
whose 23 home runs and 78 RBI rank second in the nation, while the third outfielder is Fairmont
State’s Courtney Iacobacci, who set six single-season school records in earning Mountain East
Conference “Player of the Year” honors.
Southern Indiana’s Haley Hodges – the national leader in slugging percentage at 1.000 and on-
base percentage who also threw out over 50 percent of the runners attempting to steal -- was
named as the first team catcher, while the utility player on this year’s squad is Salem
International’s Katie Chryssofos, who ranks in the top seven nationally in homers, RBI and
slugging percentage.
This is the 10th season of the All-America program which is selected by CoSIDA members from
schools playing in NCAA Division II and first in which the program was solely sponsored by the
Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association.

Poole was named as the “Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year” for the second year in succession after posting a 53-4 record for the Nighthawks in 2016, breaking the Division II record for wins in a season. She also has the third-lowest earned run average in Division II of 0.76 and struck out 445 hitters in 378 2/3 innings. She is one of three North Georgia players to make the first team, joining outfielder Stephanie Hartness and second baseman Meredith Heyer. Hartness batted .469 on the year and was named as the Peach Belt Athletic Conference’s “Player of the year”, while Heyer hit .415 and drove in 49 runs to earn first-team All-PBAC honors. Clark, the “Ron Lenz Player of the Year”, leads NCAA Division II in hitting with a .500 average and is second in runs batted in with 78, as she belted 16 home runs during the 2016 campaign. The Gulf South Conference “Player of the Year” joins teammate Anna Gayle Norris as the first North Alabama players to earn All-America honors on the team selected by sports information directors since the program began in 2007. Norris, named as the first-team designated hitter, hit .387 during the season with 14 home runs and 64 runs batted in. Joining Poole on the first-team pitching staff were a pair of standouts from the Great Lakes Valley Conference, Indianapolis senior Morgan Foley and Missouri-St. Louis senior Hannah Perryman. Foley earned the league’s “Pitcher of the Year” honor this season as she went 40-4 with a 0.85 earned run average and 497 strikeouts in 272 innings, while Perryman, who finished her collegiate career with record totals for strikeouts (1,725) and perfect games (nine), recorded a 45-6 record and fanned a national-high 567 hitters. The three first-teams hurlers – the top three in the nation in strikeouts -- combined for 1,509 strikeouts in 1,012 1/3 innings, an average of 10.4 strikeouts per seven innings pitched. In addition, utility-pitcher Lyndsey Butler of Wayne State (Mich.) fanned another 227 hitters in 226 1/3 innings and also batted .483 with 12 home runs on the year. Including second-team pitchers Coley Ries of Minnesota State and Carley Tysinger of Catawba, the top five pitchers in the nation in strikeouts all earned a spot on the D2CCA All-America team. The left side of the first team infield consists of third baseman Kaitlyn Bannister of Alabama- Huntsville, the national leader in runs batted in with 81 and Colorado Mesa shortstop Makayla Kovac, named as the top offensive player in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference after posting the third-highest slugging percentage in Division II at .922 with 42 extra base hits. Top-ranked West Texas A&M had one of the other selections in the outfield in Ashley Hardin, whose 23 home runs and 78 RBI rank second in the nation, while the third outfielder is Fairmont State’s Courtney Iacobacci, who set six single-season school records in earning Mountain East Conference “Player of the Year” honors. Southern Indiana’s Haley Hodges – the national leader in slugging percentage at 1.000 and on- base percentage who also threw out over 50 percent of the runners attempting to steal -- was named as the first team catcher, while the utility player on this year’s squad is Salem International’s Katie Chryssofos, who ranks in the top seven nationally in homers, RBI and slugging percentage.
