WEST TEXAS A&M
The top ranked Lady Buffs were set to open Lone Star Conference play last weekend
by mother nature had other plans as the four-game LSC series in Stephenville against
Tarleton State was cancelled due to inclement weather in the DFW area. WT will now
open-up league play against the rival Mustangs of Midwestern State during White Out
Cancer Weekend at Schaeffer Park in Canyon with action beginning on Friday night at
5 p.m.
THE OPPONENT
The Mustangs of Midwestern State will open-up their Lone Star Conference schedule as
well this weekend in Canyon following the cancellation of four games against Eastern
New Mexico set for last weekend in Wichita Falls due to inclement weather. MSU is
riding a 10 game win streak into this weekend after starting off the season 3-4. The
Mustangs are led by 12th year head coach Brady Tigert who has led MSU to nine NCAA
Postseason appearances in 11 seasons while claiming the 2011 NCAA South Central
Regional Championship and advancing to the College World Series.
The Mustangs are led at the plate by Katy Vandewater who is hitting .371 with five dou-
bles and seven homeruns with a team leading 30 RBI for a slugging percentage of .790
while Paige Stevens is hitting .358 with three doubles and a triple to drive in six RBI with
five stolen bases. In the circle, MSU is led by Tayler Jerrick, who is 2-1 with a 1.52 ERA with
two complete games this season as she has registered 16 strikeouts and an opponent
batting average of .209.
THE SERIES
The Mustangs lead the all-time series against WT, 22-11 with the teams splitting their six
meetings during the 2014 season. The Lady Buffs took two-of-three from MSU during
last season’s NCAA South Central Regional Tournament in Canyon on their way to the
DII National Championship while MSU took two-of-three from WT in Wichita Falls during
Lone Star Conference play. The Lady Buffs and Mustangs are 5-5 all-time in Canyon
with WT holding the 5-1 advantage at Schaeffer Park since 2011.
WHITE OUT CANCER WEEKEND
The Lady Buffs will begin the defense of their Lone Star Conference Championship on
Friday with doubleheader action set for 5:00 p.m. in Canyon, Texas against the rival
Mustangs of Midwestern State during White Out Cancer Weekend presented by Buffalo
Wild Wings (5416 S. Coulter). The series will wrap-up on Saturday afternoon with first
pitch of a doubleheader set for 1:00 p.m. at Schaeffer Park. The weekend also marks a
Highway 287 Challenge matchup as WT/MSU are tied at 7-7 in the final regular season
matchup of the challenge.
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Lone Star Conference softball teams are 93-46 overall this season including a 26-17
mark last week. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently 30-18 com-
bined versus Heartland Conference teams and 36-11 against the Rocky Mountain Ath-
letic Conference. The overall LSC Champion will be the team(s) with the best winning
percentage in regular-season conference games, while the winner of the postseason
championship will be recognized as LSC Tournament Champion and receive the
league’s automatic qualification into NCAA postseason. The single-elimination champi-

The Lady Buffs have gone 9-1 inside of the friendly
confines of Schaeffer Park this season to contin-
ue their home dominance. WT is 117-20 (.855) at
Schaeffer Park since the facility opened prior to the
2011 season. 2014 marked the third time in the last
four years (‘11, ‘13, ‘14) that the Lady Buffs hosted
NCAA Postseason action in Canyon.
NFCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (MAR. 4)
WT picked up 11 of the 16 possible first place votes
for a total of 392 points followed by Valdosta State
(4 first place, 386), Cal State Monterey Bay (362),
Missouri-St. Louis (352), St. Mary’s (1 first place, 337),
Angelo State (316), West Chester (267), Dixie State

and Angelo State (6th). It marks the 54th straight
week (372 days) that WT has been atop of the

the Valdosta State reign atop of the rankings from
March 28, 2012 to March 13, 2013 (51 weeks – 351
days) as the longest in recent history
#CLAUSSTRONG
The Lady Buffs have chosen to play for a something
bigger than themselves this season as they join
the #ClausStrong campaign for former Lady Buff
Amanda Claus and her family. Amanda’s father
Rick was in a single car accident in Dallas in late
December and the father of two has been in a
coma ever since. For more info, visit the family’s
journal at CaringBridge.org. We Are Buff Nation, We
Are WT Softball, and We Are #ClausStrong.
LIVE COVERAGE
The West Texas A&M Athletic Media Relations De-
partment will provide live stats and a webstram for
all four games in Canyon. Fans can also follow the
WT Softball Facebook page for updates. For links

schedule page at GoBuffsGo.com.
A LOOK AT THE SCHEDULE
The Lady Buffs will once again face a tough schedule
in 2015 as they look to defend their 2014 NCAA Na-
tional Championship. The schedule is highlighted by a
return trip to the NFCA Leadoff Classic with matchups
against East Central, Western Oregon, Colorado
Mesa, St. Mary’s and Dixie State.
LSC play will see matchups with four teams that made
an NCAA Regional Tournament last year with #6
Angelo State, Texas Woman’s, Midwestern State and
Cameron while the Lady Buffs topped fellow NCAA
Postseason entrant Metro State, 2-0 on Feb. 14th.

5. Having been hired to re-start West Texas A&M
softball following a 24-year absence, Kevin Blaskowski
has wasted little time in building the Lady Buffs into a
perennial national title contender. In nine years at the helm, he has registered
a 320-219 mark, recorded four NCAA tournament berths and an overall record
of 672-496 over 22 seasons. While at WT, Blaskowski has claimed a Lone Star
Conference title, LSC Tournament Title, two South Central Regional Cham-
pionships, a South Central Super Regional Title and the 2014 NCAA Division II
National Championship.
2014 saw the Lady Buffs capture the program’s first ever NCAA Division II
National Championship as WT topped perennial power Valdosta State in a
Memorial Day thriller at the Moyers Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. The Lady
Buffs finished their dream season with an overall record of 60-7, becoming just
the fourth team in NCAA history to win a title while also reaching the 60-win
mark (Cal State Northridge-1985; Augustana-1991; North Dakota State-2000).
Blaskowski and his staff were rewarded for their efforts on the diamond, being
named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II National
Coaching Staff of the Year while Coach B also picked up Lone Star Confer-
ence Coach of the Year accolades.
Coach B reached another career milestone in 2013 as he claimed his
600th career victory against St. Edward’s in Austin, Texas on April 14th. The 2012
season saw the Lady Buffs make another appearance in the LSC Tournament
before falling to rival Angelo State in the semifinal round, WT just missed out
on the NCAA Postseason, finishing the season with an overall record of 35-18.
Blaskowski reached a personal milestone on February 19, 2012 as he coached
his 1,000th career game in a win over New Mexico Highlands in Canyon.
The 2011 season saw the Lady Buffs make a historic run to their first ever
South Central Regional Championship as they finished the season with an
overall record of 50-18. WT claimed the program’s first ever Lone Star Confer-
ence Tournament Championship in 2011. Blaskowski also reached a personal
milestone in 2011, claiming his 500th career victory on March 5 in a 15-2 win
over Eastern New Mexico at Lady Buff Yard in Canyon, the win was also special
for WT’s centerfielder Kim LeComte who hit for the first cycle in program history.
The Lady Buffs finished the 2010 season with a 45-18 overall record and ad-
vanced to the NCAA South Central Region Finals. Blaskowski was honored as
the Lone Star Conference South Division Coach of the Year.
Blaskowski was hired in December of 2004 to bring back the softball
program to WTAMU’s campus after a 24 year absence. Blaskowski came to
WT from Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico University where he
served as the head coach for one year. Prior to ENMU, Blaskowski coached
at Southern Arkansas University for five years, where he started the SAU softball
program and led them to the postseason in each of his five years. In 2003, SAU
was the Co-Champion of the West Division in the Gulf South Conference with a
31-19 overall record and a 19-4 conference mark.
While at Southern Arkansas, Blaskowski’s teams also excelled in the class-
room as they finished in the top ten in the NFCA Team GPA Rankings his last
four years. SAU was ranked in the Top 10 of the team grade point average
rankings in 1999-00 (5th), 2000-01 (7th), 2001-02 (8th), and 2002-03 (7th). While
at SAU, Blaskowski served as a member of the NCAA Division II South Region
rating committee in addition to being named Gulf South Conference Co-
Coach of the Year in 2000.
Blaskowski also has served as the head coach at Phillips University from
1996-1998. He started the program at Phillips which qualified for postseason
play in each of its two seasons
before the school closed in 1998.
He was also the head coach at
Washburn University in Topeka,
Kan., and Kansas Wesleyan Univer-
sity, in Salina, Kan. He was chosen
at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic
Conference (KCAC) Coach of the
Year at Kansas Wesleyan in 1993
and was selected as the NAIA
District 10 Coach of the Year at
Kansas Wesleyan University in 1994.
Blaskowski received a Bachelor
of Science in Education with a
major in Physical Education from
Valley City State University in North
Dakota in 1986. He completed a
Master of Science in Education
with an emphasis in Health, Physi-
cal Education and Recreation at
Emporia State University in Kansas
in 1989.
In his career, Blaskowski has
also been an instructor at Eastern
New Mexico, Southern Arkansas,
Kansas Wesleyan and West Texas
A&M. He was the Sports Informa-
tion Director at Phillips and Kansas
Wesleyan, and also served as
head coach of women’s bas-
ketball at Kansas Wesleyan and
Assistant Sports Information Director at Washburn.
Blaskowski and his beautiful wife, April, are the parents of two daughters,
Kaelyn Rose and Kelsey Rhea.
