The organizational models
contradict itself.
Bimodal IT tries to solve the Gordian Knot
by running both models at the same time.

Bimodal IT – About A rchitecture
Common answers to the «new architecture»
«we already have this», «it’s only a old fashioned Rich Client Architecture.
«We have already tried a component oriented architecture»
Think of it like.: «It should feel like a Google API for programmers!»

Bimodal cuts vertically
between and horizontally
within systems and
organizations.
How can we identify the “right” cuts for
the “right” reasons?

Bimodal IT – Map your IT landscape
1. Get the Status Quo
Divide into Systems of Records, Differentiation and Innovation
Identify your n-Tier-Architecture of Components/Systems and their Dependencies
(Interfaces)
Draw the result on the matrix (map it!)
Find the proposed organizational form from the position of the matrix
2. Draw your future map (step-by-step)
Divide monoliths into horizontal or vertical elements
Hint: The tiers of the component may be run at different speeds!
Get the need for change due to «Need for Governance» und «Need for Change»
according to Gartner.
Put emphasis on the VISUAIZATION and t
the possibilities to discuss the map in
a group in front of a physical board! It is
the first step towards the execution of
Bimodal transformation.

How does your map look like? Where do you see dissonance? How does the target map look like?
Which cuts can be identified? What is the recommended organizational pattern (1 – 3)?
