18. Causes of WWI The Russian Empire
The Russian Empire, whose the largest military force in the world, joined WW1 because of
its camaraderie with Serbia. As Germany and Austria-Hungary presented Serbia a rigid
ultimatum, the empire then began its initial steps towards military mobilization against Austria
and formally ordered mobilization after Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia.
