18. After hygiene and sanitation problems are eliminated, the CHC members will be involved in income generating groups and trading

23. Increased hand washing with soap at critical times from 34% to 80%

24. Improved safe drinking water access and handling in schools and homes to 80%

25. Establishment of CHCs in every villages to 100%

26. Safe disposal of children’s faeces in every household from 28% to 100%

Best Practices Improve hygiene behaviours and prevent diarrhoeal diseases Encourage community management of water and sanitation facilities Communities mobilize themselves and achieve sustainable changes in a short time A sense of pride and unity is fostered Community Health Clubs involve very little investment and results in a very big impact and ownership and responsibility

29. Challenges Limited or no budgetary allocation for hygiene and sanitation at different levels Limited collaboration/coordination of local stakeholders Some local leaders have limited knowledge about hygiene and sanitation and related dangers Weak participatory monitoring
