Embracing SharePoint — Jeremy Stewart

  1. SORCE has been delivering intranets for the best part of 20 years. All that time we have been delivering a product that is not based on SharePoint, but this year we decided to start offering a second product which is SharePoint based. Why did we do this and what have we learnt?
  2. We have always had lots of people ask us if we could deliver something SharePoint, but we have always said no.
  3. This could be seen as a bit of an uphill struggle however, as so many people out there clearly are choosing SharePoint for their intranet technology.
  4. But intranet users don’t care what technology it is built on. Just like website users don’t care what technology that is built on.
  5. We’ve learnt what you get out of the box from SharePoint.
  6. We’ve also seen the power of SharePoint and how it is possible to create something that users will engage with.
  7. We’ve seen lots of this…
  8. ***A hilarious anecdote about adding content to Office 365*** You had to be there….
  9. The questions that we now get asked are different but equally challenging.
  10. I think the trouble is that people get far too bogged down by features when buying intranets.
  11. Instead they should be focusing on their business and its specific needs.
  12. We now understand that technology is just an enabler and would urge you to focus on your user’s needs, not the technology or its features.
