2. WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Located in Southeast Asia is the exciting and cosmopolitan city of Bangkok.
Known as ‘The City of Angels', Bangkok has pride of place as the capital and
most populous city of Thailand, and is a popular destination for all types of
travellers.
Welcoming more visitors than any other city, it has a wealth to offer from the
grandeur of its exotic temples and Grand Palace, to its remarkable shopping
and many Thai street food experiences.
After dark, Bangkok springs to life with its renowned cabaret shows, lively and
enticing bars, and infamous red light district.
3. ATTRACTIONS
We’ve selected our top 5 things to see and do in Bangkok:
Tour down the Khlong: If you’ve ever imagined what life was like for the people of Bangkok
when they lived in stilted shacks and wooden townhouses, a tour down the Khlong shows it
all.
The Grand Palace and Wat Prakeaw: Deep in the heart of the old city, the sacred grounds
of the Grand Palace and Wat Prakeaw will leave you in awe. The Temple of the Dawn, Wat
Arun, is especially striking.

4. WEATHER
With the highest average temperature of any city in the world, Bangkok stays hot
throughout the year with average temperatures remaining well above 30°C. Frequent
afternoon showers, monsoons and the occasional thunder storm will greet visitors,
thanks to the high humidity levels.
In addition to a very high humidity, Bangkok reaches its highest temperatures from
March to August.
The rainy season in Bangkok stretches from May until September, with the heaviest
rainfall in June. Lying just 6 feet above sea level, prolonged periods of rain can lead to
flooding, though rain normally falls in the afternoon and the days when the whole city is
awash are infrequent. Temperatures during this time remain above 25°C.

5. CLOTHING
While there are no set rules regarding clothing, it’s important to show
respect for the local people by wearing clothes that cover your
modesty. In Thai temples, shoulders and knees need to be covered
by men and women, and closed-toe shoes are advised. As shoes
need to be removed before entering the temples, we recommend
avoiding laced shoes.
For general wear in Bangkok, keep in mind that the heat and humidity
will make you sweat, so thin, light materials such as cotton are your
best bet. Sunglasses, protective hats and sun cream are essential.
6. IDEAL FOR…?
From the beautiful temples and spectacular
shopping, to the vibrant nightlife and peaceful river
cruises, Bangkok truly does have something for
everyone.
While the climate only changes slightly throughout
the year, it’s worth remembering that the period of
November to February will be the driest. If travelling
with children during this time, make sure they are
well protected from the intense heat and sunshine.
