Halloween is an annual celebration that is observed in a number of countries all over the world. The history of Halloween is an unwritten web of tales that has become increasingly more fabricated as the world has commercialised the celebration. People are less focussed on the ghoulish aspect of remembering the dead, and are far more interested in eating as many sweets as they possibly can.
At Where2Holiday we want to reinject some of that exciting yet spine-chilling frightening fear into our readers. Perfect for the thrill-seeking horror fans out there, this blog explores the most haunted places you can explore at Halloween – read if you dare...

3. 1. Beelitz-Heilstätten (Beelitz
Sanatoriums) Berlin, Germany
A beacon of eerie, unexplained noises, mysterious and anonymous
footsteps and whispers, this former hospital’s terrifying presence has
been enough to startle professional ghost hunters in the past. The
hospital has been standing since the late 19th century where it was built
as a treatment centre for the tuberlocious epidemic that occurred in
Berlin at that time. However the hospital was soon transformed into a
military hotel- leaving the facility to be labelled as “Hitler’s Hospital”.
Today the building is left as the haunting remains of the Nazi sanatorium
which refuses to part with its ghosts. Those who dare to enter these
walls of woes will witness rusting operating tables that have been
untouched since the war and the presence of the departed will
undoubtedly be prominent.
4. 2. Pluckley Village- Kent, England
Even the Guinness World Records can’t argue with us on this one. Voted
as the most haunted village in England, Pluckley is reputed as having
between 12 and 16 ghost residents. This visit is destined to give you a
feverish fright with its reports of paranormal activity. If the temperature
drops and footsteps in empty rooms aren’t enough to raise the hairs on
the back of your neck, Pluckley sure will. There have been sightings of a
screaming man, a highway man pinned to a tree with a sword and the
icing on the cake- ghosts still hanging from the noose that caused their
deaths. Don’t let the picturesque and charming scenery fool you, the
spook-factor of this village will leave you shaking in your boots.
5. 3. Alcatraz Island, San Francisco
America
Believer or non-believer in the afterlife, it’s hard to question the restless
spirits that haunt this island. A federal prison secluded to solitude on its
own island is a spooky enough setting without even the mention of
ghosts. Off limits for many years, the unexplained cold chills and
whispers of terror have brought the prison to be a tourist destination
renowned for its hair-raising paranormal portfolio. So much so it has even
been featured on SyFy’s Ghost Hunters.
6. 4. The Tower of London, London,
England
Rich in a bloody history, the tower may dominate the London
landscape, but its internal supernatural presence is far more
intimidating. For those looking or a bloodcurdling
experience, you’ll find yourself become part of the tower’s
history when you expose your eyes to the ghosts of; Henry
V1, the “White Lady”, guards, Anne Boleyn and Lady Jane
Grey.
7. 5. Banff Springs Hotel, Alberta,
Canada
If you think you can handle a night stay away with a spirited soul then get
yourself a room booked at the Banff Springs Hotel in Canada. One thing
you can bet on is that you won’t be the only guest staying in the hotel.
You’ll find yourself being in the company of several different spirits -
whether they’ll be friendly or unnerving is the risk you must take. The
ghostly guests have reported to be a dancing bride, a helpful bellman and
the figures of a murdered family.
