PROJECT DESCRIPTION
National Hall Parking Garage
Westport, Connecticut ■ 2013
This one level addition to an existing parking
structure is indicative of our unique way of
looking for opportunities.
In order to support the adjacent redevelopment
project, additional parking was necessary. Having
already utilized all available land left one option –
add a level to the existing precast concrete garage.
Mitigating factors included an extremely tight site,
significant overhead utilities in the area, and the fact
that the original garage was not designed to support
a second level. SDE designed a steel-frame long-span
structure that spanned over and penetrated through
the existing structure without imparting additional
loads. At one end the existing curved helical ramp
was extended up to access the new roof level. The
steel frame was blast cleaned and painted and a
colored concrete and brick façade was used for a
compatible look to the existing structure below.

Broadway Lofts Garage
Everett, Massachusetts ■ 2013
Simon Design was brought in to provide
professional Engineer of Record services
through a refferal of a satisfied client based on
past experience.
The former Charleston Chew candy factory in
Everett, MA is being converted to apartments and
expanded. Simon Design Engineering was engaged
by the developer to design an economical 300-car
parking garage on an odd shaped site to support the
development. During the design phase it became
clear that one of the overall project’s requirements
was the need to bury and cap existing soil to avoid
costly disposal. SDE modified the ramping scheme
in order to maximize the volume of buried soil.
Structurally the garage has precast and cast-in-place
concrete decks with a galvanized steel frame. The
parking structure will be cladded with a fabric screen
to allow for translucency, economy, and flexibility to
decorate the structure.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Saint Anne’s Hospital Osborn Street Garage
Fall River, Massachusetts ■ 2012
9 Months From Concept Sketch to Occupancy.
The renovation of St. Anne’s Hospital campus first
required the construction of a parking structure to
free up land for a new health care building. The
design-build delivery method was used to expedite
the delivery of the garage, which took less than nine
months from concept to occupancy.
The only site available was very small and required
a non-conventional ramping and circulation solution.
The parking was to support the hospital employees
who would use the facility 24/7, so security and
openness were critical components of the design.
A galvanized steel frame and both precast and
cast-in-place concrete were used for this structure.
The structure was designed to allow for horizontal
expansion should adjacent property be available for
further development. SDE was the Engineer of Record
for the project.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Brigham Patient Parking Garage and Thea and James M. Stoneman Centennial Park
Brigham and Women’s Hospital
Boston, Massachusetts ■ Open Fall 2014
With a focus on improved design efficiencies,
differentiating construction techniques, and
leveraging the design-build team’s experience
in order to minimize the amount of rock
removal, Simon Design Engineering developed
an alternate scheme for this underground
parking garage resulting in significant
cost savings while shaving months off the
construction schedule.
This 400-space underground parking garage and
40,000 square foot landscaped park is surrounded
by three hospital buildings in Boston’s busy
Longwood Medical Area. The project restores the
original formal entrance to the Peter Bent Brigham
Building. In our response to the Request for
Proposals (RFP), the Design-Build Team proposed a
radically different approach from what was initially
conceived. Key features included reconfiguring
parking and circulation to improve efficiency,
extending the footprint beyond the property line and
to within two feet of the existing buildings by using
secant pile walls in lieu of slurry walls, and using
post-tensioned concrete flat-plate construction to
reduce floor-to-floor heights.
The over-riding cost factor for the project was the
blasting and removal of bedrock. Our scheme
reduced the amount of bedrock removal so
significantly that it eliminated one full level of
underground parking.

EF Education First North American Headquaters
Cambridge, Massachusetts ■ 2013
Skanska USA and Simon Design team up on
EF Education First’s new North American
headquarters.
Simon Design Engineering (SDE) was approached
by Skanska USA to participate with them in a select
design-build competition for EF Education First’s new
North American headquarters adjacent to the famous
Leonard P. Zakim Bridge. SDE redesigned and value
engineered the entire structural system – the lower
parking levels were converted to steel framing similar
to the building above and the building’s lateral load-
resisting system was changed to braced frames
located in fixed wall locations around the cores.
The signature feature of this 12-story, 300,000
square foot building is an architectural glass
“waterfall.” This three-dimensional steel pipe frame
truss creates an atrium the height of the building and
is enclosed by glazing that wraps the south and east
facades of the building.
The project employed BIM from early design through
construction.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
360 State Street South Garage
New Haven, Connecticut n 2010
360 State Street, located in downtown
New Haven, is Connecticut’s largest residential
project and the first to achieve LEED Platinum
status.
The South Garage is a six-story, 125,000 square
foot structure adjacent to a 31-story residential
tower. It houses a grocery store on the street level,
supports a swimming pool, planters, and a terrace
on its roof, and provides one-third of the 500 parking
spaces for the development on the levels
in between.
The South Garage is tied to a six-story cast-in-place
post-tensioned concrete podium. Designed by
others, the podium was partially complete before
the South Garage was in design development. This
presented the design-build team with a number of
coordination challenges. Simon Design changed
the structural system to a steel frame and precast
double tee deck, providing significant cost savings
while shaving eight months off the schedule.
However, the fast-track schedule required that this
new design conform to the previously installed
deep foundation system. In addition, detailing and
fabrication of the superstructure had to begin
before the façade design was complete. Working
within the parameters established by the lead
architect, provisions were made to allow for
maximum flexibility.
Simon Design provided Engineer of Record and
Precast Concrete Design/Detailing services on this
project. Working directly with the steel and precast
fabricators and the Construction Manager allowed
for the seamless implementation of the design as
it progressed.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Yale University School of Medicine, Amistad Laboratory Building and Parking Garage
New Haven, Connecticut n 2007
Throughout the multi-phased design,
construction, and operations of the project,
Simon Design Engineering performed numerous
engineering consulting and design roles to
assist the Owner. In the end, the team met
and succeeded at each of the challenges
presented.
This project consists of a 120,000 square-foot
laboratory building and an adjacent 1,000-space
parking structure. In order to meet the development
rights, schedule, and funding for the project,
significant challenges were faced by the design and
construction team, including: a delivery method that
was a unique blend of design-build and conventional;
a multi-phased design, construction and operation
schedule; the mixed-use requirements of the
buildings; the Owner’s changing programming needs
for the liner building, and; design and construction on
an urban brownfields site.
Simon Design provided services on this project in
three distinct phases. The first consisted of the
design and construction of the parking facility and
the shared foundations with the liner building.
Phase Two included the shell and core of what was
originally planned to be a medical office building,
with the understanding that the final use could be
different. The steel structure and its lateral load
resisting system were designed to allow maximum
flexibility for final fit-out. The liner building’s basement
extends underneath the parking structure; this unique
programming required a number of building code
modifications to allow for such an arrangement of
building uses including the need for an offset double
fire separation assembly.
Ultimately, the building was converted to a clinical
research laboratory. Simon Design was retained
by the fit-out Architect to design the necessary
modifications to the structure. The change in use
required the addition of a mechanical penthouse level
and the introduction of an additional line of columns
to reduce beam spans and limit vibrations that could
affect the sensitive equipment in the building.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
JetBlue Airways Yellow Garage at John F. Kennedy International Airport
Queens, NewYork n 2008
Simon Design, as part of the design/build team,
revised the original structural system, footprint,
and column grid to facilitate fabrication of the
structrual steel and precast components to
provide significant savings in cost, time, and
construction efforts.
This 650,000 square foot, six-level parking structure
provides parking for over 1,500 vehicles and services
JetBlue Airways’ expanding Terminal 5 operations at
the John F. Kennedy International Airport. In order
to maintain the project delivery date and to allow
for additional utilities, the existing utilities were not
relocated prior to construction. Despite efforts,
considerable conflicts with existing underground
utilities resulted in approximately fifty percent of the
foundations being redesigned during construction.
Simon Design worked closely with the Contractor
to keep pile-driving and construction operations
going as the foundation structural redesign was
being done in real-time with construction. By using
BIM technology, in conjunction with the steel and
precast manufactures, Simon Design was able to
accurately layout and design the project foundations
and superstructure relative to the known and realized
existing conditions. The BIM model also aided in the
steel and precast integration in order to facilitate the
project schedule and reduce conflicts.
Many large and small scale changes were made to
the original design; one such change was the elevator
core location. Simon Design recognized the benefits
of relocating the core such as a shortened project
delivery schedule and a better pedestrian flow.
These on-the-fly changes required services beyond
typical EOR. Simon Design worked in close
coordination with the Port Authority to provide design/
build guidance, assistance, and oversight while
maintaining professional integrity and exceeding the
Owner’s best interests.
Simon Design provides JetBlue Airways with the
following services: Conceptual Project Design, Project
Programming, Value Engineering and Management,
Parking Consulting, Structural Engineer of Record,
Project Coordination, Material Evaluation Services,
Quality Assurance, and Project Closeout.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
MBTA Beverly Depot Station Parking Garage
Beverly, Massachusetts n Ongoing
Addressing one of the client’s key objectives, the
facility is conceived as one that is sustainable and
durable, requiring minimal maintenance over time.
Based on a life-cycle cost analysis, a cast-in-place
post-tensioned concrete structure was chosen.
The parking garage at the Beverly Depot Station
is the MBTA’s first Construction Manager at Risk
Project. Originally conceived as a Transportation
Oriented Development (TOD) opportunity to include
a long-term lease of MBTA property, the garage and
a mixed-use development, Simon Design was on the
only Developer-Design/Build Team that proposed a
solution that met all of the MBTA’s needs. Due to the
economic climate at the time, the TOD portion of the
project was deferred. However, the MBTA hired the
design team to prepare 30% Documents based on our
initial proposal.
Our team then competed for and was chosen to
complete the final design for the facility. The scope
of the project includes a 500-car four-level garage
and pedestrian access to the nearby MBTA station
via a bridge over Pleasant Street. The parking
structure is designed and sited to accommodate a
range of possible future TOD projects, which would
likely consist of residential or other mixed-use
development components and could be built on top of
the garage, adjacent to it, or both. In order to provide
adequate space on the tight multi-level site, the
garage is located partially within the railroad right-
of-way. Functionally, the garage is designed to serve
commuters in the short term and be readily modified
to provide segregated parking should it be required by
the future TOD.

Elliot Health System n Elliot at Rivers Edge Garage A, B, n 2nd Medical Office Building
Manchester, New Hampshire n Ongoing
As part of our design/build-assist scope of work,
Simon Design Engineering modified the structural
layout and framing, realigned the ramps to conform
to the existing sloping site, and improved the
efficiency of the parking layout and circulation.
Elliot Health System, in conjunction with a private
developer, redeveloped an urban site in downtown
Manchester, New Hampshire. Garage ‘A’, which was
included in the first phase of this redevelopment,
serves the Elliot at River’s Edge Ambulatory Care
Center (ACC). This 966-car, six-level, 300,000 square-
foot parking facility and the ACC are located adjacent
to an active railroad line, the Merrimack River, and a
residential area. The constrained site posed logistical
challenges in terms of delivery and lay-down of
precast components and erection of the structure
adjacent to the on-going construction of the ACC.
Key aspects of the project include vehicular access
via a precast concrete bridge and a pedestrian bridge
connecting the garage to the adjacent Ambulatory
Care Center. Due to the garage’s prominent location
on the Merrimack River across from the interstate
highway, the architectural finishes were critical to the
project – by using white cement and form liners for
the exterior components, the required architectural
character was achieved at a nominal cost.
Based on the success of Garage ‘A’, Simon Design
was retained by the Developer and Construction
Manager to be part of the design/build team to
deliver the next phase of the development – the
new Medical Office Building (MOB) and the adjacent
Garage ‘B’. We proposed a highly efficient 300-car
three-story parking structure utilizing the sloping site
to provide access to all levels, eliminating the need
for internal ramps and providing flat open floors that
improved the passive security of the facility. A 200
foot long pedestrian bridge connecting the ACC to the
adjacent MOB is also part of the project.

Briston-Myers Squibb, Parking Garage
Devens, Massachusetts ■ 2009
Three Month Design and Review Process and A
Six Month On-Site Construction Schedule.
This design/build garage is part of Bristol-Myers
Squibb’s $750 million biologics manufacturing
facility in Devens, MA made possible through Public-
Private partnership with the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts. As part of the design/build team
Simon Design Engineering served as Designer of
Record, precast component designer and detailer for
the parking structure. The program required that the
garage be designed and detailed to allow for future
vertical expansion as the Owner completes its phased
construction and operations on the Devens Campus.
Bristol-Myers Squibb elected to provide a structure
to meet its current needs with the inclusion of a roof
and leave all expansion for the future. Simon Design
recently completed the design of modifications to
allow for parking on the existing roof level and it is
anticipated that design for the vertical expansion will
begin in the spring of 2013.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Logan International Airport Terminal Renovation and Expansion
East Boston, Massachusets ■ 2010
Existing moment-frame structure seismically
upgraded with new steel bracing.
The renovation and expansion of the existing
Terminal-E Annex building at Logan International
Airport, formerly known as Terminal-D, allowed
Southwest Airlines to enter the Boston market with
new gates and concessions. The 34,000 square-
foot renovation project provided additional gates for
future air carriers, created new passenger holdroom
space, developed shell space for a future security
checkpoint, and included a new baggage claim
system.
A new roof structure was added and large floor
openings were infilled to create additional occupied
space. In addition, there were various existing
floor elevations within the space which required
adjustments to match, including at interfaces
between adjacent terminal buildings.
Simon design performed a Chapter 34 structural build
code review and created a 3D model of the existing
structure to determine the reserve capacities and/or
deficiencies of lateral load resisting system. Working
closely with the Architect and Construction Manager,
new seismic bracing locations were selected to avoid
interference with internal circulation. New foundations
were limited to only one additional pile cap which was
located outside the existing footprint, avoiding costly
and time-consuming work within the building and near
existing underground utilities.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Logan International Airport Terminal B Renovation and Expansion
East Boston, Massachusets ■ 2014
Between 2012 and 2014, Terminal B underwent
a $160 million renovation. The renovation
created a post-security walkway connecting
Terminal B North to Terminal B South and
became the new home for all United Airlines
flights.
Renovations and improvements to Logan International
Airport’s Terminal B included 24 ticket counter
positions, a relocated and modified TSA passenger
checkpoint, 10 reconfigured departure lounges and
boarding gates, a secure passenger connection to
Pier B, concessional shell space, new club shell
space and new baggage systems and bag claim
devices. Several airside improvements, including a
reconfigured apron and aircraft fueling system, were
also part of the project scope.
Working at an operational airport had its challenges.
Construction was a 24-hour operation in order to
work around the airport’s busiest hours. Check point
installation ran from 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to avoid the
high traffic times. In addition, temporary walls were a
crucial part of this project to separate the public from
the work and to mitigate noise.
Other challenges included the concern that a major
milestone in the project—the installation of the
baggage handling system (BHS), a $15-million,
eight-month process—would not be met in time. But
through the use of building information modeling
(BIM), the team was able to keep coordination-related
changes to a minimum and expedite the installation
process to meet the aggressive time line. Through the
use of BIM, there was a 15% time savings on the BHS
schedule. An additional 15% schedule savings was
achieved on the installation of the 12 new TSA check
point lanes through the use of pull planning.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Bayside Development, Master Plan and Parking Garage
Portland, Maine n Ongoing
As a follow-up to the Ocean Gateway project
in Portland, Maine, Simon Design Engineering
competed and won a project to assist the
city in developing a master plan and to produce
construction documents for a parking
facility to revitalize a section of Portland known
as Bayside.
Bayside represents an opportunity to shape the last
and largest land resource of the Portland Peninsula
and is intended to be an attractive urban gateway
featuring a mix of uses. This district will create a
new front face of the City with housing, workplaces,
services, transportation, recreation, dining and
shopping, all within comfortable walking distance of
each other and the downtown. The parking structure’s
proximity to the bicycle path and municipal transit
creates a unique multi modal opportunity.
Simon Design’s involvement in the Bayside project
began in 2005 as part of a multidisciplinary
consultant and design team providing the City
of Portland with services associated with the
parking garage. In our role as parking engineer and
consultant, we supported the Consultant Team in the
execution of the planning and design work necessary
to gain consensus and develop solutions for the
parking facility and its coordination and integration
with the overall development. We participated
regularly with City of Portland in internal meetings and
public agency reviews and presentations with a wide
range of stakeholders.
The scope of our effort included all necessary
analysis, programming, planning, design, and
engineering to meet the City’s objectives and
culminated in the production of a complete set of
construction documents for the parking facility.
Unfortunately, due to the poor economic climate,
the project has yet to be realized. There have
been, however, several attempts to jump start the
development of this area and build upon the effort
started and, in May 2011, a private developer
received approval from the Community Development
Committee to purchase and develop the Bayside
property.
Simon Design Engineering’s involvement in the
Bayside redevelopment and other parking garage
projects has led to our being a resource for the City
of Portland and local developers to determine the
viability of parking in an evolving downtown.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Winooski Falls Downtown Redevelopment n Master Plan
Winooski, Vermont n 2006
Winner of the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency’s 2006 National Award for Smart
Growth Achievement, the Winooski Downtown
Redevelopment project created a thriving, attractive
center with much-needed housing, stores, offices,
and public spaces.
The city preserved or restored nearly 100 acres
of natural habitat, returned vacant properties to
productive use, created several neighborhood parks,
and built the pedestrian-friendly RiverWalk.
Simon Design Engineering provided services on this
redevelopment project in three distinct phases.
Initially, in concert with a local architect, Simon Design
was involved in the conceptual, master planning, and
permitting phases, which included permitting through
Vermont Act 250. The project was funded through a
unique public-private partnership between federal,
state, local, and private entities, which created a
diverse project agenda that Simon Design helped to
mitigate and worked diligently to address.
Simon Design then served as the prime designer
and Structural Engineer of Record for the municipal
parking garage, which was at the core of the
redevelopment. Built on a sloping site and tucked
behind liner buildings on all four sides, the facility
has two vehicular entrances, two primary pedestrian
access points, and connections to the surrounding
buildings at all levels. Interface with these buildings,
both structurally and in terms of functionality, and
code-related egress and openness issues were keys
to the design.
Simon Design was also retained to provide parking
consulting services for the entire redevelopment.
The Project consisted of approximately 220 on-street
parking spaces within the Central Business District
(CBD) and 930 spaces inside the garage. The scope
of services included coordination of a comprehensive
access and revenue controls solution with functionality
that met the city of Winooski’s requirements, including
review and refinement of capital equipment and
maintenance budgets, development of the required
scope of the new access and revenue controls, and
management of the procurement process for the
systems. To promote a user-friendly, safe, navigable,
and durable facility, Simon Design reviewed,
recommended, and reported on improvements to the
garage, including: parking and circulation efficiency,
lighting, security, pedestrian egress, signage and
wayfinding, maintenance, and operations.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Yawkey Center for Cancer Care
Boston, Massachusetts n 2010
Simon Design was brought in to provide
professional Engineer of Record services for
Dana-Farber’s new signature building based on
our decade long relationship that dates back to
the design of the adjacent award-winning Smith
Research Laboratories.
This $350 million, 500,000 square foot, 22-story
structure houses seven clinical floors, six laboratory
and research floors, miscellaneous mechanical floors,
and has seven stories of below grade parking. This
structure is essentially an addition to the award-
winning Smith Research Laboratories structure and
shares all common floors.
Vibrations caused by the adjacent power plant that
services the Longwood Medical Area posed unique
design challenges. The sensitive equipment used in
the new facility, as well as the consideration for out-
patients receiving life-saving treatments, required that
these vibrations not be felt in the building.
A structural system was developed that was entirely
isolated from the surrounding soils. The slurry
walls around the below grade parking levels are
supported by permanent tie-back anchors with an air
gap provided between the walls and superstructure.
Deep foundations elements, founded on bedrock,
are isolated to minimize the propagation of vibrations
into the structure. This project also includes a tunnel
connecting the new Yawkey Center with the existing
Dana Building providing convenient and safe access
from a valet- managed drop-off area to a new MRI
center.
SDE provides Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with the
following services: Owner’s Agent, Conceptual Project
Design, Project Programming, Value Engineering and
Management, Parking Consulting, Structural Engineer
of Record, Project Coordination, Material Evaluation
Services, Quality Assurance, and Project Closeout.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dana Building Renovations and Backfill
Boston, Massachusetts n Ongoing
Simon Design continues its long-standing
relationship with Dana-Farber to renovate
existing space vacated upon completion of the
new Yawkey Center for Cancer Care building. The
scope of work is separated into various related
projects, consisting of more than 100,000 square
feet of renovated space.
Simon Design’s continued involvement in all of
the backfill projects, in addition to our extensive
experience with the overall campus, serves to provide
continuity and a coordinated approach among the
different projects.
The planned renovations will allow for consolidation
and expansion of Dana-Farber administrative services
and patient care while re-cladding the existing cast-in-
place concrete podium structure to blend the campus
together architecturally. Structural work includes: the
demolition of existing parking ramps and the infill of
new floors; raising existing floors to match elevations;
support of both rooftop and interior mechanical
equipment; accommodation of a new curtainwall
system; a new main employee entrance and stair, and
support of various architectural upgrades including
canopies, signage, and façade systems. Existing
infrastructure and MEP systems will be replaced and
upgraded as required.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Jay Peak Resort Parking Structure
Jay, VT n 2010
Simple Site-Specific Solution Addresses Extreme
Weather, a Tight Site and a Limited Budget
Jay Peak Resort recently finished the construction
of a new hotel, ice rink and indoor water park,
successfully transforming their resort into a
four-season experience. The opening of these
new attractions brought the need for additional
visitor parking that would be in keeping with the
scenic surroundings, convenient to all structures,
and constructible within schedule and budget
requirements.
Several alternatives were considered. At first, in an
effort to avoid acres of surface parking that could
potentially mar the landscape, the Owner considered
providing the necessary parking below the new
buildings. However, the benefits of doing so were
outweighed by the significant cost and schedule
impacts. In response, Simon Design developed the
right solution for the Owner: a simple, stand-alone
facility built into the hillside in close proximity to the
new facilities. By constructing the parking at Jay Peak
in this way, the Owner was able to provide ample,
conveniently located parking at a fraction of the cost.
This approach provided many benefits including
logical and convenient locations of pedestrian access
points, multiple vehicle access points and enhanced
traffic flow, and the creation of protected, covered
parking and storage spaces.
Overall, the value realized by the Owner at Jay
Peak was long-term and far-reaching. Simon Design
delivered a solution that achieved on-schedule
completion, optimal site utilization and design,
maximum convenience, safety for end-users and
life-cycle maintenance efficiencies—all delivered at
significant cost savings.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
25 Marston Street Parking Structure and Pedestrian Bridge
Lawrence, Massachusetts n 2008 and 2011
A Design/Build Garage Delivered for Less Than
Half the Cost of the Original Design Approach
The redevelopment of 25 Marston Street included
the construction of new a parking structure
adjacent to a completely restored, 100-year-old
mill building located on the Merrimack River.
In close proximity to Lawrence General Hospital,
the newly renovated building now provides 27,500
square feet of medical office space outfitted with
all amenities including energy efficient heating
and cooling systems. The overall development
created greatly increased parking demand by
patients, employees and visitors.
Faced initially with an expensive and inefficient
parking solution, the Owners reached out to find
an alternative. With a focus on economy and
simplicity, Simon Design presented a precast
concrete and steel solution that took advantage
of the sloping site in order to eliminate internal
ramping in the three-story facility.
Additionally, a cantilever bridge provides a direct
connection between the street and the top level.
The middle structured level is accessed by an
on-grade ramp and the lowest level is on-grade
with sufficient clearance to allow turn-around of
emergency vehicles.
Recently, Simon Design added a two-level
pedestrian bridge to the 25 Marston Street
project. This enhancement provided an accessible
connection between the medical office spaces and
upper levels of the garage for the convenience and
safety of staff and patrons.

“We find SDE to be a perfect partner for Walsh Brothers due to so many shared values: unwavering
commitment to client satisfaction, direct involvement of principals, and a can-do, team oriented
problem solving approach. Regardless of the project size or complexity, SDE was always available
at a moment’s notice to work through any challenge with our staff and subcontractors. All of their
engineers we have worked with are enthusiastic about their work, and display a true sense of
partnership with the construction side. We look forward to many future assignments collaborating
with Simon Design Engineering.”
Richard Walsh, President
“Simon Design Engineering (SDE) has been, and continues to be, our “go to” structural engineer for
Dana-Farber construction projects. Alan Simon & his team have guided us through what have proven
to be extremely difficult structural design challenges. Our most recent major project, the Yawkey
Center for Cancer Care, features seven stories of under-ground parking with fourteen floors of clinical
space above, all nestled adjacent to the MATEP power plant providing utility services to the medical
and academic institutions in the Longwood Medical Area and our Smith Research Facility. Not only
did SDE successfully complete the structural design, The American Council of Engineer Companies
of Massachusetts presented the 2011 silver award honoring outstanding professional design
excellence to Simon Design for the Yawkey project. We are grateful for the level of professionalism,
experience, and structural guidance that SDE brings to every project at DFCI.”
Wendy Gettleman, Sr. Director Planning, Design & Construction, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
“Simon Design provides creative solutions to complicated problems always with an eye on
the budget.”
Max Jordan, Fluor Corporation
“Three words come to mind when I think of Alan Simon; conscientious, concise, and most of all,
creative. Whether the project is a kitchen addition, a parking garage, or an $80 Million state-of-the-art
cancer research facility, I can always count on Alan to do a first-rate job and consistently exceed
my expectations.”

  • 5. PROJECT DESCRIPTION National Hall Parking Garage Westport, Connecticut ■ 2013 This one level addition to an existing parking structure is indicative of our unique way of looking for opportunities. In order to support the adjacent redevelopment project, additional parking was necessary. Having already utilized all available land left one option – add a level to the existing precast concrete garage. Mitigating factors included an extremely tight site, significant overhead utilities in the area, and the fact that the original garage was not designed to support a second level. SDE designed a steel-frame long-span structure that spanned over and penetrated through the existing structure without imparting additional loads. At one end the existing curved helical ramp was extended up to access the new roof level. The steel frame was blast cleaned and painted and a colored concrete and brick façade was used for a compatible look to the existing structure below.
  • 6. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Broadway Lofts Garage Everett, Massachusetts ■ 2013 Simon Design was brought in to provide professional Engineer of Record services through a refferal of a satisfied client based on past experience. The former Charleston Chew candy factory in Everett, MA is being converted to apartments and expanded. Simon Design Engineering was engaged by the developer to design an economical 300-car parking garage on an odd shaped site to support the development. During the design phase it became clear that one of the overall project’s requirements was the need to bury and cap existing soil to avoid costly disposal. SDE modified the ramping scheme in order to maximize the volume of buried soil. Structurally the garage has precast and cast-in-place concrete decks with a galvanized steel frame. The parking structure will be cladded with a fabric screen to allow for translucency, economy, and flexibility to decorate the structure.
  • 7. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Saint Anne’s Hospital Osborn Street Garage Fall River, Massachusetts ■ 2012 9 Months From Concept Sketch to Occupancy. The renovation of St. Anne’s Hospital campus first required the construction of a parking structure to free up land for a new health care building. The design-build delivery method was used to expedite the delivery of the garage, which took less than nine months from concept to occupancy. The only site available was very small and required a non-conventional ramping and circulation solution. The parking was to support the hospital employees who would use the facility 24/7, so security and openness were critical components of the design. A galvanized steel frame and both precast and cast-in-place concrete were used for this structure. The structure was designed to allow for horizontal expansion should adjacent property be available for further development. SDE was the Engineer of Record for the project.
  • 8. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Brigham Patient Parking Garage and Thea and James M. Stoneman Centennial Park Brigham and Women’s Hospital Boston, Massachusetts ■ Open Fall 2014 With a focus on improved design efficiencies, differentiating construction techniques, and leveraging the design-build team’s experience in order to minimize the amount of rock removal, Simon Design Engineering developed an alternate scheme for this underground parking garage resulting in significant cost savings while shaving months off the construction schedule. This 400-space underground parking garage and 40,000 square foot landscaped park is surrounded by three hospital buildings in Boston’s busy Longwood Medical Area. The project restores the original formal entrance to the Peter Bent Brigham Building. In our response to the Request for Proposals (RFP), the Design-Build Team proposed a radically different approach from what was initially conceived. Key features included reconfiguring parking and circulation to improve efficiency, extending the footprint beyond the property line and to within two feet of the existing buildings by using secant pile walls in lieu of slurry walls, and using post-tensioned concrete flat-plate construction to reduce floor-to-floor heights. The over-riding cost factor for the project was the blasting and removal of bedrock. Our scheme reduced the amount of bedrock removal so significantly that it eliminated one full level of underground parking.
  • 9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION EF Education First North American Headquaters Cambridge, Massachusetts ■ 2013 Skanska USA and Simon Design team up on EF Education First’s new North American headquarters. Simon Design Engineering (SDE) was approached by Skanska USA to participate with them in a select design-build competition for EF Education First’s new North American headquarters adjacent to the famous Leonard P. Zakim Bridge. SDE redesigned and value engineered the entire structural system – the lower parking levels were converted to steel framing similar to the building above and the building’s lateral load- resisting system was changed to braced frames located in fixed wall locations around the cores. The signature feature of this 12-story, 300,000 square foot building is an architectural glass “waterfall.” This three-dimensional steel pipe frame truss creates an atrium the height of the building and is enclosed by glazing that wraps the south and east facades of the building. The project employed BIM from early design through construction.
  • 10. 08.03.11 po PROJECT DESCRIPTION 360 State Street South Garage New Haven, Connecticut n 2010 360 State Street, located in downtown New Haven, is Connecticut’s largest residential project and the first to achieve LEED Platinum status. The South Garage is a six-story, 125,000 square foot structure adjacent to a 31-story residential tower. It houses a grocery store on the street level, supports a swimming pool, planters, and a terrace on its roof, and provides one-third of the 500 parking spaces for the development on the levels in between. The South Garage is tied to a six-story cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete podium. Designed by others, the podium was partially complete before the South Garage was in design development. This presented the design-build team with a number of coordination challenges. Simon Design changed the structural system to a steel frame and precast double tee deck, providing significant cost savings while shaving eight months off the schedule. However, the fast-track schedule required that this new design conform to the previously installed deep foundation system. In addition, detailing and fabrication of the superstructure had to begin before the façade design was complete. Working within the parameters established by the lead architect, provisions were made to allow for maximum flexibility. Simon Design provided Engineer of Record and Precast Concrete Design/Detailing services on this project. Working directly with the steel and precast fabricators and the Construction Manager allowed for the seamless implementation of the design as it progressed.
  • 11. 08.03.11 pbo PROJECT DESCRIPTION Yale University School of Medicine, Amistad Laboratory Building and Parking Garage New Haven, Connecticut n 2007 Throughout the multi-phased design, construction, and operations of the project, Simon Design Engineering performed numerous engineering consulting and design roles to assist the Owner. In the end, the team met and succeeded at each of the challenges presented. This project consists of a 120,000 square-foot laboratory building and an adjacent 1,000-space parking structure. In order to meet the development rights, schedule, and funding for the project, significant challenges were faced by the design and construction team, including: a delivery method that was a unique blend of design-build and conventional; a multi-phased design, construction and operation schedule; the mixed-use requirements of the buildings; the Owner’s changing programming needs for the liner building, and; design and construction on an urban brownfields site. Simon Design provided services on this project in three distinct phases. The first consisted of the design and construction of the parking facility and the shared foundations with the liner building. Phase Two included the shell and core of what was originally planned to be a medical office building, with the understanding that the final use could be different. The steel structure and its lateral load resisting system were designed to allow maximum flexibility for final fit-out. The liner building’s basement extends underneath the parking structure; this unique programming required a number of building code modifications to allow for such an arrangement of building uses including the need for an offset double fire separation assembly. Ultimately, the building was converted to a clinical research laboratory. Simon Design was retained by the fit-out Architect to design the necessary modifications to the structure. The change in use required the addition of a mechanical penthouse level and the introduction of an additional line of columns to reduce beam spans and limit vibrations that could affect the sensitive equipment in the building.
  • 12. 08.03.11 po PROJECT DESCRIPTION JetBlue Airways Yellow Garage at John F. Kennedy International Airport Queens, NewYork n 2008 Simon Design, as part of the design/build team, revised the original structural system, footprint, and column grid to facilitate fabrication of the structrual steel and precast components to provide significant savings in cost, time, and construction efforts. This 650,000 square foot, six-level parking structure provides parking for over 1,500 vehicles and services JetBlue Airways’ expanding Terminal 5 operations at the John F. Kennedy International Airport. In order to maintain the project delivery date and to allow for additional utilities, the existing utilities were not relocated prior to construction. Despite efforts, considerable conflicts with existing underground utilities resulted in approximately fifty percent of the foundations being redesigned during construction. Simon Design worked closely with the Contractor to keep pile-driving and construction operations going as the foundation structural redesign was being done in real-time with construction. By using BIM technology, in conjunction with the steel and precast manufactures, Simon Design was able to accurately layout and design the project foundations and superstructure relative to the known and realized existing conditions. The BIM model also aided in the steel and precast integration in order to facilitate the project schedule and reduce conflicts. Many large and small scale changes were made to the original design; one such change was the elevator core location. Simon Design recognized the benefits of relocating the core such as a shortened project delivery schedule and a better pedestrian flow. These on-the-fly changes required services beyond typical EOR. Simon Design worked in close coordination with the Port Authority to provide design/ build guidance, assistance, and oversight while maintaining professional integrity and exceeding the Owner’s best interests. Simon Design provides JetBlue Airways with the following services: Conceptual Project Design, Project Programming, Value Engineering and Management, Parking Consulting, Structural Engineer of Record, Project Coordination, Material Evaluation Services, Quality Assurance, and Project Closeout.
  • 13. 08.03.11 po PROJECT DESCRIPTION MBTA Beverly Depot Station Parking Garage Beverly, Massachusetts n Ongoing Addressing one of the client’s key objectives, the facility is conceived as one that is sustainable and durable, requiring minimal maintenance over time. Based on a life-cycle cost analysis, a cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete structure was chosen. The parking garage at the Beverly Depot Station is the MBTA’s first Construction Manager at Risk Project. Originally conceived as a Transportation Oriented Development (TOD) opportunity to include a long-term lease of MBTA property, the garage and a mixed-use development, Simon Design was on the only Developer-Design/Build Team that proposed a solution that met all of the MBTA’s needs. Due to the economic climate at the time, the TOD portion of the project was deferred. However, the MBTA hired the design team to prepare 30% Documents based on our initial proposal. Our team then competed for and was chosen to complete the final design for the facility. The scope of the project includes a 500-car four-level garage and pedestrian access to the nearby MBTA station via a bridge over Pleasant Street. The parking structure is designed and sited to accommodate a range of possible future TOD projects, which would likely consist of residential or other mixed-use development components and could be built on top of the garage, adjacent to it, or both. In order to provide adequate space on the tight multi-level site, the garage is located partially within the railroad right- of-way. Functionally, the garage is designed to serve commuters in the short term and be readily modified to provide segregated parking should it be required by the future TOD.
  • 14. 08.05.11 pbo PROJECT DESCRIPTION Elliot Health System n Elliot at Rivers Edge Garage A, B, n 2nd Medical Office Building Manchester, New Hampshire n Ongoing As part of our design/build-assist scope of work, Simon Design Engineering modified the structural layout and framing, realigned the ramps to conform to the existing sloping site, and improved the efficiency of the parking layout and circulation. Elliot Health System, in conjunction with a private developer, redeveloped an urban site in downtown Manchester, New Hampshire. Garage ‘A’, which was included in the first phase of this redevelopment, serves the Elliot at River’s Edge Ambulatory Care Center (ACC). This 966-car, six-level, 300,000 square- foot parking facility and the ACC are located adjacent to an active railroad line, the Merrimack River, and a residential area. The constrained site posed logistical challenges in terms of delivery and lay-down of precast components and erection of the structure adjacent to the on-going construction of the ACC. Key aspects of the project include vehicular access via a precast concrete bridge and a pedestrian bridge connecting the garage to the adjacent Ambulatory Care Center. Due to the garage’s prominent location on the Merrimack River across from the interstate highway, the architectural finishes were critical to the project – by using white cement and form liners for the exterior components, the required architectural character was achieved at a nominal cost. Based on the success of Garage ‘A’, Simon Design was retained by the Developer and Construction Manager to be part of the design/build team to deliver the next phase of the development – the new Medical Office Building (MOB) and the adjacent Garage ‘B’. We proposed a highly efficient 300-car three-story parking structure utilizing the sloping site to provide access to all levels, eliminating the need for internal ramps and providing flat open floors that improved the passive security of the facility. A 200 foot long pedestrian bridge connecting the ACC to the adjacent MOB is also part of the project.
  • 15. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Briston-Myers Squibb, Parking Garage Devens, Massachusetts ■ 2009 Three Month Design and Review Process and A Six Month On-Site Construction Schedule. This design/build garage is part of Bristol-Myers Squibb’s $750 million biologics manufacturing facility in Devens, MA made possible through Public- Private partnership with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As part of the design/build team Simon Design Engineering served as Designer of Record, precast component designer and detailer for the parking structure. The program required that the garage be designed and detailed to allow for future vertical expansion as the Owner completes its phased construction and operations on the Devens Campus. Bristol-Myers Squibb elected to provide a structure to meet its current needs with the inclusion of a roof and leave all expansion for the future. Simon Design recently completed the design of modifications to allow for parking on the existing roof level and it is anticipated that design for the vertical expansion will begin in the spring of 2013.
  • 16. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Logan International Airport Terminal Renovation and Expansion East Boston, Massachusets ■ 2010 Existing moment-frame structure seismically upgraded with new steel bracing. The renovation and expansion of the existing Terminal-E Annex building at Logan International Airport, formerly known as Terminal-D, allowed Southwest Airlines to enter the Boston market with new gates and concessions. The 34,000 square- foot renovation project provided additional gates for future air carriers, created new passenger holdroom space, developed shell space for a future security checkpoint, and included a new baggage claim system. A new roof structure was added and large floor openings were infilled to create additional occupied space. In addition, there were various existing floor elevations within the space which required adjustments to match, including at interfaces between adjacent terminal buildings. Simon design performed a Chapter 34 structural build code review and created a 3D model of the existing structure to determine the reserve capacities and/or deficiencies of lateral load resisting system. Working closely with the Architect and Construction Manager, new seismic bracing locations were selected to avoid interference with internal circulation. New foundations were limited to only one additional pile cap which was located outside the existing footprint, avoiding costly and time-consuming work within the building and near existing underground utilities.
  • 17. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Logan International Airport Terminal B Renovation and Expansion East Boston, Massachusets ■ 2014 Between 2012 and 2014, Terminal B underwent a $160 million renovation. The renovation created a post-security walkway connecting Terminal B North to Terminal B South and became the new home for all United Airlines flights. Renovations and improvements to Logan International Airport’s Terminal B included 24 ticket counter positions, a relocated and modified TSA passenger checkpoint, 10 reconfigured departure lounges and boarding gates, a secure passenger connection to Pier B, concessional shell space, new club shell space and new baggage systems and bag claim devices. Several airside improvements, including a reconfigured apron and aircraft fueling system, were also part of the project scope. Working at an operational airport had its challenges. Construction was a 24-hour operation in order to work around the airport’s busiest hours. Check point installation ran from 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to avoid the high traffic times. In addition, temporary walls were a crucial part of this project to separate the public from the work and to mitigate noise. Other challenges included the concern that a major milestone in the project—the installation of the baggage handling system (BHS), a $15-million, eight-month process—would not be met in time. But through the use of building information modeling (BIM), the team was able to keep coordination-related changes to a minimum and expedite the installation process to meet the aggressive time line. Through the use of BIM, there was a 15% time savings on the BHS schedule. An additional 15% schedule savings was achieved on the installation of the 12 new TSA check point lanes through the use of pull planning.

  • 19. 08.03.11 pco PROJECT DESCRIPTION Bayside Development, Master Plan and Parking Garage Portland, Maine n Ongoing As a follow-up to the Ocean Gateway project in Portland, Maine, Simon Design Engineering competed and won a project to assist the city in developing a master plan and to produce construction documents for a parking facility to revitalize a section of Portland known as Bayside. Bayside represents an opportunity to shape the last and largest land resource of the Portland Peninsula and is intended to be an attractive urban gateway featuring a mix of uses. This district will create a new front face of the City with housing, workplaces, services, transportation, recreation, dining and shopping, all within comfortable walking distance of each other and the downtown. The parking structure’s proximity to the bicycle path and municipal transit creates a unique multi modal opportunity. Simon Design’s involvement in the Bayside project began in 2005 as part of a multidisciplinary consultant and design team providing the City of Portland with services associated with the parking garage. In our role as parking engineer and consultant, we supported the Consultant Team in the execution of the planning and design work necessary to gain consensus and develop solutions for the parking facility and its coordination and integration with the overall development. We participated regularly with City of Portland in internal meetings and public agency reviews and presentations with a wide range of stakeholders. The scope of our effort included all necessary analysis, programming, planning, design, and engineering to meet the City’s objectives and culminated in the production of a complete set of construction documents for the parking facility. Unfortunately, due to the poor economic climate, the project has yet to be realized. There have been, however, several attempts to jump start the development of this area and build upon the effort started and, in May 2011, a private developer received approval from the Community Development Committee to purchase and develop the Bayside property. Simon Design Engineering’s involvement in the Bayside redevelopment and other parking garage projects has led to our being a resource for the City of Portland and local developers to determine the viability of parking in an evolving downtown.
  • 20. 08.03.11 pco PROJECT DESCRIPTION Winooski Falls Downtown Redevelopment n Master Plan Winooski, Vermont n 2006 Winner of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2006 National Award for Smart Growth Achievement, the Winooski Downtown Redevelopment project created a thriving, attractive center with much-needed housing, stores, offices, and public spaces. The city preserved or restored nearly 100 acres of natural habitat, returned vacant properties to productive use, created several neighborhood parks, and built the pedestrian-friendly RiverWalk. Simon Design Engineering provided services on this redevelopment project in three distinct phases. Initially, in concert with a local architect, Simon Design was involved in the conceptual, master planning, and permitting phases, which included permitting through Vermont Act 250. The project was funded through a unique public-private partnership between federal, state, local, and private entities, which created a diverse project agenda that Simon Design helped to mitigate and worked diligently to address. Simon Design then served as the prime designer and Structural Engineer of Record for the municipal parking garage, which was at the core of the redevelopment. Built on a sloping site and tucked behind liner buildings on all four sides, the facility has two vehicular entrances, two primary pedestrian access points, and connections to the surrounding buildings at all levels. Interface with these buildings, both structurally and in terms of functionality, and code-related egress and openness issues were keys to the design. Simon Design was also retained to provide parking consulting services for the entire redevelopment. The Project consisted of approximately 220 on-street parking spaces within the Central Business District (CBD) and 930 spaces inside the garage. The scope of services included coordination of a comprehensive access and revenue controls solution with functionality that met the city of Winooski’s requirements, including review and refinement of capital equipment and maintenance budgets, development of the required scope of the new access and revenue controls, and management of the procurement process for the systems. To promote a user-friendly, safe, navigable, and durable facility, Simon Design reviewed, recommended, and reported on improvements to the garage, including: parking and circulation efficiency, lighting, security, pedestrian egress, signage and wayfinding, maintenance, and operations.
  • 21. 08.03.11 pbo PROJECT DESCRIPTION Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Yawkey Center for Cancer Care Boston, Massachusetts n 2010 Simon Design was brought in to provide professional Engineer of Record services for Dana-Farber’s new signature building based on our decade long relationship that dates back to the design of the adjacent award-winning Smith Research Laboratories. This $350 million, 500,000 square foot, 22-story structure houses seven clinical floors, six laboratory and research floors, miscellaneous mechanical floors, and has seven stories of below grade parking. This structure is essentially an addition to the award- winning Smith Research Laboratories structure and shares all common floors. Vibrations caused by the adjacent power plant that services the Longwood Medical Area posed unique design challenges. The sensitive equipment used in the new facility, as well as the consideration for out- patients receiving life-saving treatments, required that these vibrations not be felt in the building. A structural system was developed that was entirely isolated from the surrounding soils. The slurry walls around the below grade parking levels are supported by permanent tie-back anchors with an air gap provided between the walls and superstructure. Deep foundations elements, founded on bedrock, are isolated to minimize the propagation of vibrations into the structure. This project also includes a tunnel connecting the new Yawkey Center with the existing Dana Building providing convenient and safe access from a valet- managed drop-off area to a new MRI center. SDE provides Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with the following services: Owner’s Agent, Conceptual Project Design, Project Programming, Value Engineering and Management, Parking Consulting, Structural Engineer of Record, Project Coordination, Material Evaluation Services, Quality Assurance, and Project Closeout.
  • 22. 08.03.11 pbo PROJECT DESCRIPTION Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dana Building Renovations and Backfill Boston, Massachusetts n Ongoing Simon Design continues its long-standing relationship with Dana-Farber to renovate existing space vacated upon completion of the new Yawkey Center for Cancer Care building. The scope of work is separated into various related projects, consisting of more than 100,000 square feet of renovated space. Simon Design’s continued involvement in all of the backfill projects, in addition to our extensive experience with the overall campus, serves to provide continuity and a coordinated approach among the different projects. The planned renovations will allow for consolidation and expansion of Dana-Farber administrative services and patient care while re-cladding the existing cast-in- place concrete podium structure to blend the campus together architecturally. Structural work includes: the demolition of existing parking ramps and the infill of new floors; raising existing floors to match elevations; support of both rooftop and interior mechanical equipment; accommodation of a new curtainwall system; a new main employee entrance and stair, and support of various architectural upgrades including canopies, signage, and façade systems. Existing infrastructure and MEP systems will be replaced and upgraded as required. Simon Design performed a Chapter 34 structural building code review of each building on the campus to assist in determining the extent and scope of feasible renovations and additions. Simon Design provides the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with the following services: Owner’s Agent, Financial Planning Assistance, Community Approval, Programming, Value Engineering, Parking Consulting, Structural Engineer of Record, Project Coordination, and Project Closeout.
  • 23. 08.03.11 po PROJECT DESCRIPTION Jay Peak Resort Parking Structure Jay, VT n 2010 Simple Site-Specific Solution Addresses Extreme Weather, a Tight Site and a Limited Budget Jay Peak Resort recently finished the construction of a new hotel, ice rink and indoor water park, successfully transforming their resort into a four-season experience. The opening of these new attractions brought the need for additional visitor parking that would be in keeping with the scenic surroundings, convenient to all structures, and constructible within schedule and budget requirements. Several alternatives were considered. At first, in an effort to avoid acres of surface parking that could potentially mar the landscape, the Owner considered providing the necessary parking below the new buildings. However, the benefits of doing so were outweighed by the significant cost and schedule impacts. In response, Simon Design developed the right solution for the Owner: a simple, stand-alone facility built into the hillside in close proximity to the new facilities. By constructing the parking at Jay Peak in this way, the Owner was able to provide ample, conveniently located parking at a fraction of the cost. This approach provided many benefits including logical and convenient locations of pedestrian access points, multiple vehicle access points and enhanced traffic flow, and the creation of protected, covered parking and storage spaces. Overall, the value realized by the Owner at Jay Peak was long-term and far-reaching. Simon Design delivered a solution that achieved on-schedule completion, optimal site utilization and design, maximum convenience, safety for end-users and life-cycle maintenance efficiencies—all delivered at significant cost savings.
  • 24. 08.03.11 po PROJECT DESCRIPTION 25 Marston Street Parking Structure and Pedestrian Bridge Lawrence, Massachusetts n 2008 and 2011 A Design/Build Garage Delivered for Less Than Half the Cost of the Original Design Approach The redevelopment of 25 Marston Street included the construction of new a parking structure adjacent to a completely restored, 100-year-old mill building located on the Merrimack River. In close proximity to Lawrence General Hospital, the newly renovated building now provides 27,500 square feet of medical office space outfitted with all amenities including energy efficient heating and cooling systems. The overall development created greatly increased parking demand by patients, employees and visitors. Faced initially with an expensive and inefficient parking solution, the Owners reached out to find an alternative. With a focus on economy and simplicity, Simon Design presented a precast concrete and steel solution that took advantage of the sloping site in order to eliminate internal ramping in the three-story facility. Additionally, a cantilever bridge provides a direct connection between the street and the top level. The middle structured level is accessed by an on-grade ramp and the lowest level is on-grade with sufficient clearance to allow turn-around of emergency vehicles. Recently, Simon Design added a two-level pedestrian bridge to the 25 Marston Street project. This enhancement provided an accessible connection between the medical office spaces and upper levels of the garage for the convenience and safety of staff and patrons.
