2. • Molybdenum is a component of xanthine
oxidase, aldehyde oxidase & sulfite oxidase.
• Sources:
• Rich sources of molybdenum are liver,
kidney, meat, milk, whole grains, legumes
and leafy vegetables.
• RDA:
• 200 micrograms/day.

3. • Absorption:
• Dietary molybdenum is readily absorbed by
the intestine and is excreted in urine and bile.
• Functions:
• Molybdenum serves as a cofactor for
metalloenzymes.
• Molybdenum is incorporated into:
• Xanthine oxidase
• Aldehyde oxidase
• Sulfite oxidase

4. Deficiency manifestations
• Molybdenum deficiency is rare in humans.
• Its deficiency causes xanthinuria with low
plasma and urinary uric acid concentrations.
• Molybdenosis is a rare disorder caused by
excessive consumption of molybdenum.
• Symptoms:
• Impairment in growth, diarrhea & anemia.
