• Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and
of the Council for establishing a framework for
Community action in the field of water policy (Water
Framework Directive)
• Directive 91/271/EEC (Urban Waste Water Directive)
and the Bulgarian legislation

7. GIS database
One of the components in the Master plans is development of
GIS database for all water supply and sewerage facilities.

Philippines – Master plan for flood control
The World Bank extended a 1.5 million U.S. dollars grant to the
Philippines to finance the formulation of a flood control master plan.
Mumbai sewerage master plan integrates slum sanitation
A team of consultants completed the master plan studies for the city
of Mumbai sewerage system in June 2002.
The studies included financial and economic modeling, phasing of
capital investments and environmental impact statement.

9. Conclusions
• On 8th of December 2011, three contracts were signed
• Master plans should facilitate the preparation of the new
investment strategies for the years ahead.
• This study will provide the means for the identification of
projects for rehabilitation of existing facilities and construction
of new ones
