What is "Organizational Culture"?
Culture happens,
whether we work on it or not.
"Culture is an umbrella term which encompasses
the social behavior and norms found in human
societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts,
laws, customs, capabilities and habits of the
individual in these groups". (E. Taylor, 1871).

Defining our Core Values:
Our principles and standards of behavior that represent our
organization's highest priorities, deeply held beliefs and
fundamental driving forces.
HOW DOES A VALUE LOOKS LIKE? HOW DOES IT TRANSLATE TO OUR DAY TO
DAY? WHAT ARE THE SUPPORTING BEHAVIORS AND ACTIONS?
Values with no supporting behaviors, are just an aspiration.​
Values backed up by a set of supporting behaviors, are CULTURE.
What makes a good
Company value?
• Be straightforward and down to earth.
• Be memorable and spike emotion.
• Be backed by clear operating principles defining the behaviors we
would like to encourage.

•"Identifying culture" - 2nd Management Session.

•"Introduction to culture"- Session for middle management.

•A workshop session for mid-management​:
Divided into working groups: Turning chosen values into actual
interview questions to identify culture-fit candidates.
The process:
• CEO & HR offsite (& Beyond)
Data analysis: Reading, comparing, eliminating, categorizing, re-organizing...
And then: Writing, re-writing, deleting, REPEAT.
• One last management session:
Presenting management with the results, getting feedback... going back to
writing, re-writing, deleting, REPEAT.
• Wrapping it up with Marketing:
Working with Galgo and Ronnie on a super tight deadline, enhancing creativity
and creating a VISUAL!

Organizational Culture Values

  • 2. Before we start.... What is "Organizational Culture"?
  • 3. Culture happens, whether we work on it or not.
  • 4. "Culture is an umbrella term which encompasses the social behavior and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities and habits of the individual in these groups". (E. Taylor, 1871). Culture: "We are what we repeatably do"
  • 5. Organizational culture: Defining our Core Values: Our principles and standards of behavior that represent our organization's highest priorities, deeply held beliefs and fundamental driving forces. HOW DOES A VALUE LOOKS LIKE? HOW DOES IT TRANSLATE TO OUR DAY TO DAY? WHAT ARE THE SUPPORTING BEHAVIORS AND ACTIONS? Values with no supporting behaviors, are just an aspiration.​ Values backed up by a set of supporting behaviors, are CULTURE.
  • 6. What makes a good Company value? • Be straightforward and down to earth. • Be memorable and spike emotion. • Be backed by clear operating principles defining the behaviors we would like to encourage. • And most importantly, support our people’s personal success and our company’s business success.
  • 7. The process: It all starts with YOU: Employee satisfaction survey: • What's the first word that comes to mind when you think "Vulcan"? • Assessment of areas to improve and doble down on.
  • 8. The process: •"Talking culture" -1st Management Session. -Homework- •"Identifying culture" - 2nd Management Session. -Homework- •"Introduction to culture"- Session for middle management. -Homework- •A workshop session for mid-management​: Divided into working groups: Turning chosen values into actual interview questions to identify culture-fit candidates.
  • 9. The process: • CEO & HR offsite (& Beyond) Data analysis: Reading, comparing, eliminating, categorizing, re-organizing... And then: Writing, re-writing, deleting, REPEAT. • One last management session: Presenting management with the results, getting feedback... going back to writing, re-writing, deleting, REPEAT. • Wrapping it up with Marketing: Working with Galgo and Ronnie on a super tight deadline, enhancing creativity and creating a VISUAL!
  • 10. And one last thing Values and Culture Change as We Change and that’s OK.

Escalate, and make sure we hold ourselves to these standrds. • Infuse these principles at everything we do: • Meetings • Projects • Policies • Conversations • Hiring process • Employee assessments • And more! • Appointing ”Value champions” who will be responsible on initiatives that infuses these value even deeper into our org

  1. A professor in Tel Aviv university once told me that if one wants to have a passionate debate at work, all he or she has to do is to throw in the air the phrase "organizational culture".  So before we start, as you can see there's a lot of results and books written about org culture, and there is a lot of different definition to it.  I want to hear a little bit if you're familiar with the concept, and what it means to you...  So feel free to jump in and say what Org culture means to you or write via chat, but don't leave me hanging 
  2. So, good news we have a culture! Bad news: it's probably means at least 10 different things to 10 different people.  When the culture is not defined properly, you are assuming how you suppose to act within th organization, and when it is defined you actually know what is expected :) 
  3. Culture is not just in organization, basically is wherever a group of people get together: In countries, in cities, in families, in classroom, in the army... Think of every place like this, there isn't only one way that it's right to be a family: some will take their shoes off when entering the house, some will not allow phone at the tables, some having shabbat dinner together, some will homeschool their children and some will watch a movie together on Sundays, there isn't one formula- but it all creates a culture specific to this particular family. 
  4. Same goes for organizations, not all organizations looks the same... and there isn't one way to success. ֿ When we talk about values, we talk about what's important to us- it serves us as a compass... but it's not enough- we have to know how it looks like, it is observable!
