2. What is a Rainforest?
These beautiful places cover
only 6 % of the Earth's
surface but yet they have
more than 1/2 of the world's
plant and animal species!
3. A Rainforest is a tall, thick jungle. The
reason it is called a rainforest is
because of the high amount of rainfall
it gets per year. The climate of a rain
forest is very hot and stuffy so the
animals and plants that exist there
must learn to adapt to this climate.
4. Location
Rainforests are found in
the tropics, the region
between the Tropic of
Cancer and the Tropic of
Capricorn, just above and
below the Equator
5. Climate
In the tropic zone
the sun is very strong
and shines about the
same amount of time
every day all year
long, keeping the
climate warm and
fairly stable.

7. The trees of a tropical
rainforest are so densely
packed that rain falling
above can take as long as 10
minutes to reach the
ground.

South America, sloths
move so slowly that algae

are able to grow in their
fur.
8. PLANTS
www.freeimages.co.uk
More than two thirds of the world's plant species
are found in the tropical rainforest. The plants
provide shelter and food for rainforest animals as
well as taking part in providing some of the world's
oxygen supply.

Rainforest plants live in a warm stuffy
environment that allows a vast variation rare in
more temperate climates. The orchids have
beautiful flowers that attract the forest insects.

Competition at ground level for light and food
has lead to plants that live on the branches of
other plants. Some even strangle large trees to
fight for survival.

NEED WATER AND
SUNLIGHT TO SURVIVE
IN RAINFOREST
CONDITIONS. ALL OF
THESE PLANTS ARE VERY
COMMONLY FOUND IN
THE RAINFOREST.
12. ANIMALS
The features of a parrot includes a
strong, curved bill, an straight pose and
strong legs. A parrot lives in the tropical
rainforest found in many places in the
world.

camouflage themselves. If disturbed, a frog
will quickly reveal his red eyes, startling

big ears, large muscly back legs, large front
