3. Statement of Purpose
Working as trainee in NIDC (National Iranian Drilling Company) was my first experience
with oil industries. I was studding in BSc level and we had a training course. I had to choose a
company and start working in it for 3 month then prepare a report about it. After start working
in Directional Drilling department / MWD section of NIDC, I found it very interesting for me.
They were using Negative Geolink tools. I was interested about internal circuits and
functionality of them. They had no proper manual about the internal structure of electronic
boards, No PCB circuit, No Schematic, Nothing at all. All they had was some manuals about
general maintenance of tools. In that short period of time I could convince them to let me work
on the electronic board of one of the Geolink down-hole tools which is called APC. I have sent
it to a company to prepare a PCB and Schematic in Protel software, then I have analyzed the
Schematic and I prepared a document about functionality of each part, voltage of each Nod
versus time, etc. It was very interesting for managers of NIDC directional drilling department
and they have written a certificate about it.
After finishing my BSc and MSc I had to do my mandatory military service, because it’s a law
in Iran. I have worked in an Army hospital and during this period I was repairing and
maintaining the medical instrument such as ECG, Dry heat, Ultrasonic, Autoclave, etc.
In continue, after finishing military service, I started to work in Scomi as mud engineer. I
should confess that I didn’t find this job very interesting because it was related to chemistry,
geology and hydraulic physics. Although I liked hydraulic physics but I didn’t like geology
and chemistry. Although I should mention that knowledge which I gathered in that period was
very useful for me in future. I went to rig site for a year then I got familiar with atmosphere of
rig site, rig components, operation procedure, etc.
Then I joined SeaLand. After leaving Schlumberger (as best and biggest service company of
wireline services) from Iran, some companies like SeaLand started to take empty position of
Schlumberger. My job was quite amazing for me, repair and maintaining high tech tools such
as wire-line full set and imaging tools such as DCBIL(UBI) and STAR(FMI). Because of my
good performance and ability in analyzing and finding solution for our main technical
problems I became supervisor of maintenance section after two years.
Then our company started to grow. They purchased MWD tools for directional drilling and
based on my previous experience with MWD tools I have started to maintain these tools. Our
MWD tools are like GE Tensor. First we have faced many problems, like failures because of
washout in our tools and failures related to Shock and vibration. My team started to draw our
tools in SolidWorks then I have done many mechanical design changes such as changing
shape of main shaft of bottom end, servo poppet and servo orifice of Pulser, increasing ID of
NMDC, etc. to reduce failures related to wash out. Also we have purchased vibrometer and
vibration isolator. We controlled the drilling parameters and we used shock sub to reduced
failures related to shock and vibration. In continue with help of other people in directional
drilling segment and using good down-hole motors we started to show a very good
performance. We had registered three records in South Pars / North Dome field and our
company became one of the famous companies between Directional Drilling & MWD
companies in Iran.
Although I’m happy about my job but I’m looking for better opportunities in better companies.
I didn’t have a chance to work in Schlumberger because it left Iran but I’m really eager to
work in a well-known international company.
