- I‘m Yuji Kubota. I come from Japan I’m a hard-of-hearing developer and OpenJDK Author, icedtea committer. I hope that I became a little good developer. I’m hard to join conservation, so I introduce how to become good developer with slide at first.
- I’d like to introduce how a hard-of-hearing person like me become a good developer. Frankly speaking, we must read codes and write codes. Because source codes are / as text messages. We hard to hear and speak with others. But we need not fear codes because we can recognize them. Maybe, we should do trial and errors more than others. In addition, documents and comments are great helps. However, not maintained docs and comments are not help hard-of-hearing people. So you must maintain them for our friends. Please care these.
- In addition, if you want to gain more knowledge, there are other useful helps. One is conversation by chat and mailing list. Especially, SNS, such as Twitter, Facebook and so on are very good communication tool for a hard-of-hearing person. If you have a twitter account. Please consider to tweet what you hear at conference, it is VERY GOOD HELP for hard-of-hearing people. And, I think you know already, one is written knowledge such as articles and books as you know. If you don’t know who is good author, you should join Java User Groups to know it. There are many talents. Next, One is to write articles and then get feedback. We are hard to talk, / but we can write / a text correctly / as same as others. / so let's try to write. And too hard things, but talking presentation is also good. Two hard-of-hearing persons have talked ignite talk at Japan Java User Group. We should start from a short time presentation. Finally, some of the youtube provide automatic subtitle, so it may help hard-of-hearing person to understand what others hear at conferences. I recommend JVM Language Summit and virtual JUG. They provide recorded streaming.
- In conclusion, we can learn by many useful helps. and we do not need to give up by our disability due to many people are very kind and help us. Never forget thanksgiving and never give up.
