It was formed in 1945 by Ruth and Elliot Handler and Harold “Matt” Matson(‘Mattel’ is a combination of Elliot and Matt’s names). Currently Mattel is operating and marketing its products in more than 150 nations around the world , and owning offices in 36 countries. Mattel’s well known toy brands include Barbie, Fisher-price, Disney entertainment lines, Hot wheels and Matchbox cars , Tyco toys, Cabbage patch kids and board games such as scrabble. -Mattel’s toy manufacturer under managerial control of CEO Jill Barad
from 1997-february 2000 could be characterized with the chief
Executive style being both strict and business-people oriented
 Mattel’s road to success had not always been smooth. In 1997
problems of sales deteriorating began sharply and worsened when
Mattel bought a software maker The learning Co.
 In 2000 Jill resigned and Robert Eckert became the new CEO
resulting to a turn around.
 Robert cut 350 jobs , and sold the software maker , eliminating also
marginally profitable toy lines . He also started buying products
related to literal phenomenon line Harry potter ,also home
electronics , movies , home furniture.
