Kom-on is derived from the word Komon. In 
Japanese culture, Komon is one of the formal 
and non-formal wear traditional Japanese used 
religious event or a day . Kom-on is the spirit of 
creative young people to unite two generations 
( old and new ). May represent the old world 
that every product is made with very details, 
durable, good quality, and has a history behind 
the product. Then wrapped with a thought or 
creativity of the present generation who have 
no boundaries, so that the spur to continue to 
produce works that are acceptable in the 
domestic and international markets.

1. Coloring from plants, woods, tree barks, 
fruits rind. Form indigo plants, kesemek 
(persimmon), to Jengkol  sourced from 
local traditional market, and local farmers. 
2. Time consuming, manual labor. 
3. Every garment dyed in natural dye is 
unique.

Natural Indigo 
1. Indigofera Tinctoria, the widely-used source of 
blue color from plants since centuries ago. 
2. Indigo is in Indonesia’s history. Besides 
trading spices, the Dutch VOC relies on Indigo 
as their main commodity. 
3. Java is one of the biggest indigo plantation in 
the 16-17th century. 
4. Takes time to produce, 3-6 months of plant 
fermentation. 
5. Requieres a correct formula of indigo and 
catalyst to make the perfect vat. 
6. Manual labor. 
7. The magic  from a greenish-blue vat, a cloth 
first turns green before magically turns blue 
after expose in open air.

1. Part of Indonesia’s century old 
practice, to make clothes using 
wooden traditional loom. 
2. Very manual labor, it takes roughly 
a day to finish just 4-5 maters of 
fabrics. Time consuming. 
3. Loose tensioned fabric means 
softer and more comfortable to 
wear.
