This document discusses the data retrieval process for the euroFOT large-scale field test. It describes a two-step process for automating data acquisition and management. First, data will be automatically acquired from vehicles and uploaded without driver interaction. Second, the large amount of uploaded data will be automatically processed, stored in a database, and made available for analysis. The system has been implemented for the German1 fleet and piloting is nearly complete. Ramp-up for the field test is scheduled to begin in mid-June.

5. Data acquisition and upload
1st step of automation (1/2)
• All 240 vehicles have to be equipped with a data acquisition
system (DAS), which enables recording of all relevant signals
• Driver shall not be stressed with additional FOT specific tasks
Data upload procedure (upload of data from the DAS to a server
system) is performed without any requirements and actions with
regard to the driver
DAS system with integrated
GPRS module (for wireless
data upload, monitoring and
re-configuration)

acquisition and
upload is
designed to
work fully
autonomously
• No driver
interaction
required

7. Data management
2nd step of automation (1/2)
• Processing of uploaded data needs to be automated
• Expected amount of data adds up to 12 TB
• Different automated processing will be applied to adapt data to
specific needs of analysis
• Conversion
• Data quality analysis
• Enrichment with additional attributes
• Classification
• Data will be processed and afterwards stored in a SQL database
• Analysis of data will be conducted on the SQL database
