2. Jerry Uelsmann
Uelsmanns’ work is Historical and Contemporary
He is a master of the photomontage and is known this
from the 20th century.
Uelsmann is a strong believer of Post visualisation, which
is being able to picture what the end image will look like
before actually getting it.
He has being pushing the boundaries of the photographic
medium for over 40 years.
Uelsmann is traditional because the techniques he uses
include dark rooms - he uses them for various different
things, like the image to the right, he takes a photograph
of open hands and various other images like floating
trees, clouds and reflections to incorporate them into
one. Most of his photograph is black and white.
Uelsmann says he runs through at least 50 sheets a day
whilst he is in the darkroom and only keeps about 2
images a day from this and overall about 10% of his work
a year actually means something to him.
His work will be displayed as Art Photography so will be
shown in galleries and books he brings out.

3. David Hockney
Hockney’s work is Contemporary and Traditional
Hockney was born July 9th 1937. Hockney an English painter,
draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer as well as a
photographer. He is well known for his photomontages that he
called ‘joiners’ the technique is well known as a Hockney joiner
because of this. David himself is considered as the most
influential British artist of the 20th century.
Hockney used Polaroid prints and subsequently 35mm,
commercially-processed color prints. He arranged his ‘patchwork’
to create one full large image.
Creation of the joiners actually happened accidentally when other
photographers were using wide lenses he didn’t like this. But
when he needed to capture a large amount of the shot he took a
lot of pictures and glued them together. After this he decided it
looked good and thought it created a narrative. Hockney left
painting for a while and experimented with this technique.
Hockney created the photomontages on the right. By doing this
he did it traditionally, he took the photographs, usually with a
Polaroid and them printed them and placed them together,
usually so they look rather distorted, the outcomes were surreal.
Hockney work is Art photography and will be presented in
photography books-such as his own and galleries.
