DETAILS
• Youth ages 9-18.
• Youth must be able to tack their horse up with little to no assistance.
• Cost - $275, includes one stall, two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners, supplies for activities,
more than 10 hours of riding instruction, and workshops.
• Additional stalls $10 each.

making new friends? Want to get started in a new event or get even better in your favorite
class? Come to horse show camp!
Events to be covered: Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, Hunter
Hack, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Trail, and Reining.
When you’re not on horseback, you’ll be learning more about what judges look for in each
class, grooming and presentation, horse show procedure and etiquette, and more. On Sunday
afternoon, participants will use what they learned in a campers-only horse show.
Plus, every night there will be games, activities, prizes and great food. Students will stay the
night in sleeping bags in the clubhouse with supervision from adult chaperons.
About the instructors: Rachel Sherck and Abby White are experienced trainers and riding
instructors. Both trainers give riding lessons in the Lawrence and Kansas City area, and are also
contracted instructors at Woodson Hill Equestrian Center in Kansas City. Combined, Rachel
and Abby have more than 25 years experience judging, riding, training, and showing horses in
western and English all-around events. They are also accomplished past members of the
K-State Horse Judging Team.

3. Step 3: Rate Your Interest and Skill Level
Rate your interest in these sessions from 1-5, 5 being very interested. Mark with an “X”
those events in which you do NOT want to participate. Using the definitions below,
circle the skill level to the right of the event that best describes you. If your skill level is
not listed to the right of the event, it is because the event is considered inappropriate
for your skill level. We will do our best to place you only in the sessions that most
interest you, but cannot guarantee every session will be available to every interested
person. Events marked with * require a canter.
Beginner: unfamiliar with the event and interested in working on the most basic skills. In riding
classes, uncomfortable at the canter.
Intermediate: familiar with the event and/or some experience showing in the event and interested in
reviewing the fundamentals. In riding classes, comfortable cantering without holding the saddle horn.
Advanced: has experience showing in the event and ready to work on finesse. In riding classes, very

Horse Camp Participation Agreement and Liability Release
As a condition of participating in the horse show camp April 9-11 2010, the parties identified below

It is hereby agreed as follows:
1. I have requested to be near horses, receive riding instruction, and store equipment at Saddle
and Sirloin, Kansas City, MO.
2. I understand that there are potentially serious risks and dangers inherent in equine (horse
activities).
3. Liability Release. I (on behalf of myself and my minor children if any) agree that Abigail White
and Rachel Sherck and any assistants, insurers, representatives, heirs, family members,
assigns, affiliated persons, and other action on their behalf, shall not be liable for any damages
arising from personal injuries that I (or my minor children, if any) may sustain as a result of
undertaking any or all of these activities. By the execution of the Agreement and Liability
Release, I agree to assume full responsibility for any injuries, losses, and or damages that may
occur to myself and/or to my minor children. I hereby fully and forever release and discharge

heirs, family members, assigns, affiliated persons, and other action on their behalf shall not be
liable for any injuries or death that a horse may sustain as a result of undertaking any or all of
these activities. By the execution of the Agreement and Liability Release, I agree to assume
full responsibility for any injuries, losses, and or damages that may occur to my horse, tack, or
equipment.
NOTICE
Under Missouri law, an equine professional is not liable for an injury to or the death of a
participant in equine activities resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities pursuant
to the Revised Statutes of Missouri.
5. Insurance. I represent that I am now and will be at all times while near horses, receiving riding
instruction or guidance, covered by accident/medical insurance.

7. Health and Disabilities. I understand that certain disabilities have accompanying conditions
that pose special physical risks to the participant during exercise. Horseback riding is
exercise. I herby certify that I, or my child, have no disabilities that would place me at risk
while undertaking these activities.

6. Step Five: Print out PAGES THREE, FOUR, and FIVE of this document and mail
it, along with a $50 check deposit to:

TERMS
The form and deposit must be postmarked by March 27, 2010. If you mail the form
near enough March 27 and it won’t arrive by that date, please notify Abby by phone or
email so she knows to expect it. If there are not sufficient youth signed up by March 27,
the camp will be canceled, those who have signed up will be notified, and deposit
checks will be returned. The $50 deposit secures a space in the camp. If campers are
unable to attend the camp they may have their deposit returned if staff is notified
before March 27. The camp accepts a maximum of 30 youth. Spaces will be filled on
a first come, first served basis. Should you apply after the 30 spaces are filled, you will
be added to a wait list and you will be notified if there are cancellations. The balance of
the fee, $225, will be due upon arrival Friday. Horses must have a valid health
certificate (30 days) and negative Coggins (1 year).

Remember to bring: 30-day health certificate, 1-year Coggins, fitted halter and lead rope and
appropriate tack for each session – English saddle, saddle pad, and bridle for hunt seat classes and
western saddle, saddle pad, and bridle for western classes. Also, showmanship lead with a chain, as
well as a longe line and longe whip. Also, hay, feed and water buckets and bucket hangers, grain,
and grooming supplies for the horse, stall fork and muck bucket, sleeping bag/bedding and/or cot,
changes of clothes, jeans or riding pants, riding boots, an optional helmet (required for the hunter
hack session), optional spurs, a towel and personal products, a notebook and something to write with.
