2. It was vital for me to combine my main product with my ancillary
texts, which are the Digipak and Advert in order to successfully
promote my music video and to sell the products to the audience.
The main product was my music video, as it gave the audience an
insight of the artists personality and style. The video also created
the star image intended. The ancillary texts worked together with
the music video, as the digipak poster advert was used to promote
the digipak album, and the digipak album worked as a instrument
to endorse the music video to the public.
I believe that using shots from my music video in my ancillary
products worked to my favour because it familiarised the
audience with the artist and his bravura. Making him effortlessly
perceptible by his target conglomerate in future references.
3. I decided to keep the front cover of the album as simple as possible. The most
important thing about the album is in bold writing at the top, intentionally
placed there to immediately capture the audiences attention. The artists name
is right underneath in the same colour, however it is in a different font, similar
to the artists handwriting. The writing is also kind of curly font which links to
the name of the artist Curly. There is a clear picture of the artists face in the
middle of the album cover, this is to familiarize the audience with his face as he
is a new and upcoming artist that may not be recognized enough yet.
4. The back cover consists of the track list of the album. The same font is used as
the title in the front cover, this is used to keep a consistent theme throughout
the digipak. Although The Motion was meant to be a single, I included other
songs from the artist in the album so that the audience have more to listen to,
I believe that this will make them come back for more.
5. I decided to include a personal message as part of the digipak. The letter is from the
artist to his fans, expressing how he feels about the opportunity he was provided with
by being able to make the album. The letter was written by the artist himself on a
notepad app, as made clear at the top, it wasn’t written by the the actual record label. I
believe that this makes the whole album more personal making the audience feel
special, compared to many other rappers that don’t give their fans as much credit. The
same consistent digital font is used throughout the whole of my digipak, embedding
the font as part of Curly’s brand identity to the audience.
6. The CD follows through using the same theme as the rest of the digipak
which is a black background with white writing. The font used to write the
artists name looks as if it is handwritten by the artist himself, giving the
CD an intimate aura.
7. I intended for the release date of the album
to be the primary focus of my digipak
advert as I believe that it is the most
important piece of information that the
audience need to know.
I decided to include a
picture of the exact
album cover on the
digipak poster to
familiarise the
audience with what the
album is going to look
like, so they don’t have
trouble looking for it in
stores.
The name of the album comes under the
release date, it isn't as bold or large as the
release date, this is a common convention
used in many digipak adverts as the main
part of information in the poster is the
release date.
The artists
website, Twitter
and Instagram
are also stated on
the poster as they
provide a way for
the audience to
get in touch with
the artist and see
his status. This
will also increase
the artists fan
base because his
fans can tweet his
music for all their
friends to see,
thus attracting a
whole new
audience.
The artist looks very
serious in the picture,
looking at the audience
directly into the eyes.
Even the picture of him
is in black and white,
keeping the theme of
the digipak and advert
consistent throughout.
The same picture is
used in the album
cover, this makes the
picture iconic and
makes him instantly
recogniseable to his
target audience.
It is made clear that the digipak includes a personal message
inside, this reduces the likelihood of the audience illegally
downloading the album, as it is obvious that they wont have access
to this special feature if they don’t buy it.
9. I believe that my main product and ancillary texts worked effectively
well together in supporting each other to produce a successful
promotion for the artist and the record label.
I used a consistent leitmotif throughout all of my products, which is a
black and white theme. The written texts are also the same throughout
my ancillary products and even the title sequence in my actual music
video which is the ‘orator std medium’ font. This is beneficial to my
products overall because it will remind the audience of Curly – The
Motion every time they see that specific font, this is a device used to
help my brand identity along with the artist wearing the same clothes
in all my products.
My characters are also between the ages of 15-25 also making the video
relatable to my target audience
10. In conclusion, it is clear that all of my products
have the same theme. I believe that the album
will stand out in a shelf as there is a picture of
the attractive artist in the middle which will
capture the audiences attention.
