   down in the valley kissing sally,
   picking up cinders breakin' winders,
   riding donkeys shooting monkeys,
   I'm a boy for kicking up a row row row


   The song is probably of Victorian origin and refers to the experiences
   and anticipation of the fair and all its attractions coming to town.

 Lempon kissa mettään mennee                           Lempo´s cat is going to the forest
 Sipu sapu sipu sapu - takasi tullee                   Sipu sapu she comes back
 Sipu sapu sipu sapu - takasi tullee                   Sipu sapu she comes back

 Lempo itte mettään mennee                             Lempo himself is going to the forest
 Rupi rapi rupi rapi - ruajana tullee                  Rupi rapi he comes creeping
 Rupi rapi rupi rapi - ruajana tullee                  Rupi rapi he comes creeping

 Lempon koira is an ancient Finnish ‘Kalevala’ metrical chant. There are many onomatopoeic
 uses in the song. This traditional way of singing has changed in the last two centuries. It is still
 a living tradition in lullabies, and songs for children's games. It was sung around the Tampere
 Region of Finland.
