- 5. Outsourcing Market Research
The global market for games outsourcing reached
$1.1bn by the end of 2006 and is set to grow to $2.5bn
by 2010 – representing 40% of total games development
spend
Outsourcing is already quite prevalent – it is estimated
that 60% of games studios outsource today, with this
figure projected to rise to 90% by 2008
If left unchecked, production costs for games developed
for next‐gen consoles will increase by 50%
Demand for quality art and animation will soon outstrip
supply by experienced outsourcing providers
Undersupply of skills across all game dev disciplines will
result in rising prices and the continued suppression of
the number of new titles in development

- 6. 3rd Party External Development
With an ever changing and maturing Video Game Industry, 3rd Party External Development has become increasingly more
attractive to games publishers and larger developers for a variety of different reasons including cost savings, headcount, and time
constraints. What differentiates 3rd Party External Development from Outsourcing is the dynamic between the client and the
vendor. 3rd Party is a collaborative, iterative process between both companies while outsourcing is linear.
Production Road is a turnkey external development solution for prototyping, ports/conversions and full product development.
With access to more than 200 dev teams and our own veteran project management staff, Production Road offers its clients a
comprehensive and efficient pipeline to secure the best 3rd Party External Development partner which matches budget, quality,
work scope and timeframe.
Prototyping
Production Road can develop fully playable prototypes or engage external
resources to partner with the client’s internal team to compete an original
demo which serves as a baseline for later stages of development.
Ports
Production Road’s development network consists of many studios that
specialize in platform conversions for all notable gaming systems. Our vendors
have done ports and conversions for projects including: Ratchet & Clank,
Resistance, Need for Speed, Call of Duty, etc…
Full Development
In addition to specialized outsourcers, Production Road’s development network
has a robust group of end‐to‐end full development studios ranging from 50 to
150+ staff members covering all mainstream genres and platforms. Full dev
