Flagstick is the world’s leader in golf course construc-
tion management, with a portfolio of over 90 golf
course construction projects in more than a dozen
countries. We have worked with many of today’s
most famous and distinguished golf course architects,
including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Robert Trent
Jones II, Rees Jones, Tom Fazio, Nick Faldo, Greg
Norman, Schmidt-Curley and Tom Weiskopf, to

What is Golf Course
Construction Management?

Building a world-class golf course takes more than
great land and an inspired design. It requires careful
planning, complex coordination, specialized mate-
rial procurement, meticulous installation oversight,
and much more. Golf course construction manage-
ment provides the client a valuable combination of
on-site technical knowledge, experienced leader-
ship, and a highly specialized management
program. This service keeps construction in line with
specifications and protects the client’s investment
while ensuring the golf course architect’s vision
becomes a reality. Flagstick has been the leader in
providing these services for over a dozen years.
Under our advanced management program, we
have guided over 90 projects from start to successful
finish.


COMPLETED PROJECTS

Mission Hills Shenzhen

Flagstick managed the start-to-finish construction of
five championship golf courses in 14 months at
Mission Hills Shenzhen. Our experienced team coor-
dinated the work of multiple architect teams, dozens
of construction consultants and engineers, and
thousands of laborers. With over 175 excavators
and 800 dump trucks, more than 26 million cubic
meters of earth were moved in six months. Mission
Hills Shenzhen, now the world’s largest golf resort,
has been called “the prime example of the interna-
tional explosion of the game over the last 20 years.”


COMPLETED PROJECTS

Mission Hills Haikou

Flagstick managed the construction of all ten courses
at this breathtaking resort on Hainan Island.
Designed by Schmidt-Curley, the 2011 Asia Pacific
Golf Course Architects of the Year, the Lava Fields
Course has been named Golf Magazine’s No. 1
New International Course of 2011 and the Black-
stone Course is the new home for the Omega
Mission Hills World Cup.

The Wilderness Club
Nick Faldo/Schmidt-Curley Design

Set against the rugged and vast Montana land-
scape, The Wilderness Club is considered one of Sir
Nick Faldo’s finest designs. It was recognized by
Golf Magazine as America’s 2nd Best New Private
Course in 2009. The Flagstick team worked with
Nick Faldo and Schmidt-Curley Design to carve the
course out of native pine forests and prairie. The
result is a masterpiece – both aesthetically and strate-
gically – that complements the grandeur of the land.

Spring City Golf & Lake Resort (Mountain)
Nicklaus Design
(Jack Nicklaus Signature Course)

Spring City boasts two championship golf courses.
The Mountain Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus,
and the Lake Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones
II, have both received numerous international acco-
lades. Asian Golf Monthly named the Mountain
Course the 2nd Best Golf Course in China for 2011,
and Golf Digest has ranked the Lake Course and
Mountain Course as the No.1 and No.2 golf
courses in China, respectively.

Martin Moore, President
Martin has a degree in golf course operations from Lake
City College, and has over 30 years of experience in
the golf course development industry. He has built golf
facilities around the world with many of today’s most
famous and distinguished architects. With his experi-
ence in turf maintenance, shaping, construction supervi-
sion and project management, Martin is widely
regarded as one of the foremost experts on golf course
construction.

Tony Cunzio, Vice President & General Manager
Tony has more than 32 years of experience in the golf,
turf, landscape and irrigation businesses, and has
owned and managed companies in all of these indus-
tries. His knowledge of international sales and market-
ing, along with his expertise in design, consultation,
construction management and product technologies
make him one of the golf industry’s most versatile and
experienced experts.

Pre-Construction Services
• Prepare, solicit and analyze contractor(s) bid documents
• Prepare initial schedules and budgets
• Provide liaison between golf course architect, owner and entire project team
• Conduct initial plan review with golf course architect regarding construction matters
• Assist golf course architect with technical specifications and detail drawings
• Assist with the set-up of the golf course construction site office and staging areas

Recommendations and Procurement
• Assist with sourcing and selection of various construction materials (drainage, irrigation, etc.), and
construction/maintenance equipment
• Assist with researching, interviewing and hiring of key construction personnel (superintendent, shapers,
managers, foreman, etc.)
• Forward all Flagstick national account discounts and cost rebates to owner
• Recommend proper turfgrass varieties and landscape materials to accommodate project goals and
climatic conditions

Quality and Cost Control
• Assist with sourcing, selection and testing of construction materials (sands, aggregates, organics, etc.)
• Verify contractors’ applications for payments, change order requests, time extensions, etc.
• Offer value-engineering recommendations without sacrificing quality
• Provide daily oversight of all golf course construction to ensure quality and proper technique
• Conduct frequent monitoring to ensure construction remains on schedule and within budget


Construction Coordination
• Coordinate work of project engineers and consultants (surveying, drainage, irrigation, water features,
landscape, etc.)
• Coordinate daily work of all on-site contractors
• Provide pre-planning of all construction phases in proper sequence to expedite completion schedule
• Assist owner and project team with all construction-related matters
• Assist golf course architect during site visits

Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain schedules and provide regular scheduling updates
• Maintain budgets and provide regular budgeting updates
• Prepare contract documents for selected contractors on behalf of the owner
• Prepare notes regarding golf course architect site visits and design comments
• Prepare and distribute minutes of weekly project coordination meetings
• Prepare weekly project status reports including progress updates, task look-aheads, construction
concerns, financial summaries, weather outlooks, etc.

Training and Safety Education
• Provide up-front training and Flagstick’s written regulations regarding occupational health and safety
matters
• Conduct periodic safety meetings with the entire construction team
• Offer training to owner-designated staff on golf course construction-related matters
