Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a brain disorder that weakens the person’s ability of
attention, memory and organization. A person with ADHD tends to be inattentive, unable to finish
tasks, forgets important meetings and many more.
This disorder is not the product of laziness or poor family upbringing. ADHD has been proven
scientifically since the early 90’s until today. Scientists and medical practitioners pointed to some
factors that cause ADHD. Here are some of the ADHD causes

3. Heredity, Pregnancy and Lead
Heredity. Experts found that heredity is the most common cause of ADHD. In their studies, a person is
likely to have ADHD if there are other family members that are diagnosed with the same disease. A
person with ADHD may also be a result of family members diagnosed with other related disorders like
bipolar and depression.
Pregnancy. An alcohol and cigarette abuse during pregnancy may also be a cause. These contain
chemicals that damage parts of the brain responsible for the attention and memory functions.
Lead. Exposure to lead can damage the frontal area of the brain that holds executive functions
mentioned above. This will result to certain negative behaviours in a person like inattention and
hyperactivity.

Brain Injury. A person with ADHD might have a history of accidentally hitting his head or of someone
who struck a serious blow in his head. Brain trauma causes malfunction that triggered the symptoms of
ADHD. A person with ADHD might also be suffering from other diseases like brain tumor or even stroke.
As mentioned above, poor parenting is not a cause of ADHD. ADHD is also not caused by diet as other
people believe. There is no scientific proof to connect poor diet to ADHD but if you or your child is
diagnosed with this disorder, it is best to consult your doctor on what food to eat to help reverse the
negative behaviour. But most importantly, please do consult your doctor on the medications, what brand
and dosage. Medication helps a person with ADHD in controlling and managing his behaviour.
