2. HTML5 is a W3C specification that defines the fifth
major revision of the Hypertext Markup Language
(HTML) for structuring and presenting content for
the World Wide Web and a core technology of the
Internet.
All Web designers use it, even if they don‟t really
realize they are. HTML5 builds on the previous
coding standards with the addition of certain
improvements.
What is HTML 5?
3. The features made possible by HTML 5 are Multimedia
Support,New Input Element Types, Canvas in HTML5, Application
caches, Geolocation, and Web workers.
Multimedia Supports both audio and video files to be played in a
browser.
The New Input Element types help in receiving the input in a
required format.
The Canvas in HTML5 feature allows pixel level operations like
drawing a line, box, circle, and performing graphics.
Application caches are available so you can store web apps (like e-
mails) and access it without having to connect with the internet.
The Geolocation feature enables location identification using
various geo location technologies GPS (Global Positioning system),
IP address, RFID (Radio frequency ID), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth MAC
address and GSM/CDMA cell IDs.
The Web workers feature enables a web application to execute
complex tasks independently without interfering with the
performance of a webpage in real-time.

4. Developers can now drop content into a page using „audio‟ and
„video‟ tags that are first order elements rather than the clunkier
„embed‟ code.
The canvas option offers a true alternative to Flash if you want to
move away from dependence on that software and plug-in while still
offering an interactive multimedia experience.
Improved Semantics makes it easy to see which parts of the page
are headers, nav, footers, aside, etc. as the tags are specific for
these all and most importantly know what their meaning and
purpose is in whole the format.
It carries is the ability to store information without the need for a
developer to be online. This is useful for mobile application creators
since they can check on the application they are working on even
without Internet connection.
HTML5 is designed to work on both desktop and mobile device
browsers with little need for tweaking and revision.
Deployment across multiple platforms means you can develop once
and use the same code in many different markets. A single batch of
code leads to less maintenance and a lower lifetime cost.
Pros of HTML 5
5. It is not compatible with all browsers. There are many
versions of IE which does not support HTML5.
HTML 5 lacks the micro formats that run through different
browsers instead it uses new sets of tags. These new
tags add „sematic richness‟ to the content of a webpage.
The lack of the said feature is a turn-off by some
developers.
A lot of developers need to readjust to web development.

6. It is used for storage. Data can be stored on a
user‟s computer or mobile device. So web apps
can work with or with out internet connection.

Yes, it poses a threat to Flash and the App(Apple) store.
“The threat to the apple store hasten the evolution of
alternative marketplaces which will provide discovery
points for both web-based, which is the HTML5
approach, and native applications,” says Wes Biggs, chief
technical officer of Adfonic, Europe‟s largest mobile
advertising network.The threat to flash is that iPhones and
iPads can not support Adobe Flash.
