During my 20+ year career as an IT professional, I have come to realize that alignment between any two parties is ultimately grounded in a mutual belief that a particular set of goals is of value to the other party. In other words, it is not enough that one party believes in these goals and that the other party also does; it is also required that each party believes that the other party believes in these goals.
