It's All About Who You Know part 5 (I Am the Good Shepherd)
1. John 10:11-13
‘I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd
lays down His life for the sheep. The hired hand
is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So
when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the
sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the
flock and scatters it. The man runs away
because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for
the sheep.

2. John 10:14-16
I am the good Shepherd; I know My sheep and
My sheep know Me—just as the Father knows
Me and I know the Father—and I lay down My
life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are
not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also.
They too will listen to My voice, and there shall
be one flock and one Shepherd.

3. John 10:17-18
The reason My Father loves me is that I lay down
My life—only to take it up again. No one takes it
from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I
have authority to lay it down and authority to
take it up again. This command I received from
My Father.’

4. He is the TRUE Shepherd for God’s people.
He is not simply another martyr, but our sacrifice,
our SUBSTITUTE.
Jesus didn’t merely claim to
be a shepherd, but “the
GOOD Shepherd.”
5. Jesus’ death was by the PURPOSE of the Father
and with a VIEW to the resurrection.
Under the old covenant the
sheep died for the shepherd (in
sacrifice), but here the Shepherd
DIED for the sheep.
6. The hired hand is more COMMITTED to his well-
being than the well-being of the sheep.
To Jesus, you are worth not only risking, but
knowingly GIVING His life for.
You BELONG to Him.
The contrast with the hired hand
is to highlight His CARE for you.
7. He knows you INDIVIDUALLY.
“I know My sheep, they LISTEN to Me and
FOLLOW Me.
Jesus laid down His life to set us free from the
ENTANGLEMENT of sin.
The Shepherd KNOWS His sheep.
