4. Mustang, which literally translates to “fertile plain”, sits on the northern region of Nepal
towards the Nepal-China border. The High Deserted Upper Mustang remained a mystery for
many centuries, until it was opened for tourist in 1992.
Said to be the Most Photogenice Place of Nepal
Once an independent kingdom however the status as a kingdom ended in 2008.
Rich in Buddhists culture upper mustang welcomes you with desert like landscape,
barren ridges, deep canyons, eroded cliffs and moraine valleys.
April to November is said to be the favorable months to visit Upper Mustang.

Lo Manthang (City of Wall) Primitive Caves Bhuddhist Monasteries
Walled city and a former capital of
Kingdom of Lo; Lo Manthang is a major
tourist attraction in the region for its
white washed mud brick walls, Gombas
(Monasteries) and the monarch Bista’s
palace.
Located at the elevation of 3,840 m
(12,600 ft), the total population of the
walled city didn’t even exceed 876 back
in 1991.
The high mountain caves in Mustang
date back 1,000 years, which are to be
found in the numbers of 10,000. Located
153 ft above the ground, the caves were
used as a shelter during war and famine,
and later as a burial ground by the primi-
tive inhabitants.
Today, you can find paintings, statues
and other artifacts preserved inside the
caves.
It has 3 major monasteries; first is
Jhampa Gompa built in 1387, which is
17 m/55 ft high and 46 m/150 ft long in
size.
Thupchen is another Gompa built in
15th century by third king Tashi Gon.
Chhyoede Gompa is the third Gompa
built in 1757.
7. Dolpo is the high altitude region in the western Himalaya of Nepal. Closed for foreign
travelers till 1996, Dolpo both “Upper & Lower” is still largely unexplored.
Surrounded by the Dhaulagiri , Churen Himal ranges & Tibet Autonomous Region
of China from the in the north, Dolpo “Upper & Lower “offers a fine adventure-travel
experience of remote and rugged mountain terrains of Nepal.

Shey Gompa, the most famous,

Thashung Gompa located near

900 years ago to conserve wild-
life.
10. Opened for foreign travelers in 2008 and almost isolated from modern world for
centuries, Tsum Valley is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley.
