Different motives exist for studying abroad between international and American students. While over 690,000 international students attended American universities in 2009-2010 for academic benefits and longer study durations, the majority of the 262,000 American students who studied abroad that year did so for shorter periods of less than 8 weeks, primarily for cultural and social experiences rather than academic reasons. At the University of Denver, international students make up 10% of students and represent 89 countries, with Chinese students being the largest group at 46% of international enrollment. International students contribute significant economic benefits through their tuition and living expenses.
