1. Natural Catastrophic

2. Tornadoes
A tornado is powerful, destructive storm with
wind speeds that can go over 300 miles per
hour (483 km/h). Most tornadoes occur in
the midwest, where tornado valley is located.
One sign that a tornado is going to come is
hail. Around 1,000 tornadoes occur each year
in the USA, destroying homes and buildings.
Tornadoes are ranked from 1 to 5; 5 is the
biggest and most dangerous tornado, and 1 is
a minor tornado. Tornadoes could sometimes
cause other storms. All of these reasons make
tornadoes feared around the world.

3. Volcanic Eruptions
Volcanic eruptions are explosions from volcanoes
where lava pours out of the Volcano. The eruption also
causes ash to fly through the air which is bad to breathe
in for your lungs. Volcanic eruptions are feared because
they could happen at any time! Think about this if you
are visiting a volcano. It could erupt without warning,
and lava would shoot out straight at you! This is the fear
that some people have. Sometimes a Volcanologist has to
go near a volcano while it is erupting just so they could
learn more about it! Volcanoes are very destructive to
homes, buildings and nature.

4. Hurricanes
A hurricane is one of the biggest storms.
You can even see it from space.
Hurricanes travel through a long range of
land, if they even get on land. Some
hurricanes occur in the ocean. Like a
tornado, hurricanes are very powerful.
Sometimes if it is a really bad hurricane,
it can have tornadoes inside the huge
storm. What makes hurricanes difficult is
that meteorologists have to look into
space and predict when they would
happen. All of these things make
hurricanes costly.

5. Tsunamis
The tsunami is a group of tidal waves that could cause
major floods. Sometimes if it is a major tsunami the
waves could reach heights bigger than 50 feet tall.
Since there is so much water and force after
the waves break, flooding commonly occurs during
tsunamis. If you are in a tsunami you should get upon high
ground like on a mountain. The best idea though is to
evacuate the area just to be safe. Earthquakes and landslides are
just some examples that could cause tsunamis. Some people think it is amusing
to surf on huge tidal waves, which could be really dangerous. You should only
surf tidal waves if you are a professional surfer because, if you fall the water will
hit you with such force you will drown. It is best to stay away from tsunamis if
you want to live!

6. Sinkholes
A sinkhole is a large hole in the ground that
sucks up anything in its range including
houses, cars, and many other large objects.
Sinkholes can be from 3.3 to 2,000 feet in
both diameter and depth. Sinkholes can
occur anywhere, but in the USA most
sinkholes occur in swampy states like
Florida. Sinkholes are caused by a form of
collapse of the surface layer. Sinkholes are a
threat to nature and all man made buildings
and homes. Because of this, sinkholes are
very affective.

7. Earthquakes
An earthquake is no doubt one of the most destructive
catastrophic events there is out there. When an
earthquake occurs the ground shakes so hard that
houses, buildings, and trees can be destroyed in
seconds. When things like that get destroyed, then
there are also many injures because the things that fall
down weigh a lot. When that much force falls on
people there is disaster. Earthquakes form lots of cliffs
because they can destroy roads. This can stop
transportation which means no driving cars and buses
until the roads are fixed! Earthquakes might not be
the biggest storm , but they cause some of the greatest
amount of damage!

8. Avalanche
An avalanche is when ice and snow fall off a big slope like
a mountain. Avalanches are bad for skiers and
snowboarders because they can fall when the avalanche
is behind them. When an avalanche goes over a person
they can sometimes be under the ice and snow, and they
can’t breathe! Avalanches are usually formed by a
mechanical failure in the snowpack, but they can also be
caused by snowboarders or wildlife. Avalanches start out
small, but eventually the avalanche gets bigger, and more
rapid. It is best to leave if you are near a avalanche.
Avalanches might seem small, but they are one of the
most dangerous and most effective natural events out
there!
