‘Elektro’ is purposely
misspelt, using a ‘K’ instead
of a ‘C’. The ‘K’ gives the
word a harsher look and
sound. This links with the
genre of music as the beat
drops are harsh and often
violent.
The red, navy, white and
black colour palette
conform to the codes and
conventions of this genre.
The red masthead connotes
danger, in which it
represents the genre as
urban and perhaps slightly
risky. This would appeal to
the readers as the audience
of this genre are
stereotypically known to
take risks.
The main image features wellknown dance music producer,
David Guetta. He is using
direct mode of address by
maintaining eye contact with
the audience, this connects
with the potential consumer
and draws them into the
magazine.
The image uses iconography
as David Guetta is featured
wearing Monster Beats
headphones. These are a wellknown expensive brand of
headphones used by
professional Dj’s. This results
in the image being
aspirational as the reader may
aspire to own a pair of these
headphones. The headphones
have also been matched to the
colour palette of the issue to
give a more aesthetically
pleasing look.
The masthead has been placed
infront of the image, this
perhaps means that the
institution is not well-known
enough, and therefore the
brand name needs to be their
focus point of the magazine to
ensure potential consumers are
familiar with the brand.
The anchorage to the main
image is ‚I’m David Guetta
B**ch!‛ The use of a swear
word here, appeals to a slightly
more mature audience and
connotes rebellious behaviour
which is associated with this
genre, and links to the harsh
beat drops and violent ‘mosh’
behaviour which is apparent
within the rave scene and the
edm genre of music.
This issue includes no puffs in
particular, however names
many artists down both sides of
the main image. This results in
a wider audience, due to
individual fans of separate
artists will notice their feature
in the magazine and then
proceed to create consumer
loyalty in which they would
come back to the magazine thus
creating a wider audience.
The magazine has the barcode
and price in the bottom right
hand corner. This conforms to
the codes and conventions of a
music magazine.
Strapline ‚electronic dance
music. Djs. Life. Style.‛ This is
simple but effective, in telling
the reader exactly what they
will get from the magazine.
