3. COMPANY PROFILE
In 1940 Clyde Wiseman ventured into his garage on the East
Side of Cleveland, Ohio and began producing pistons for
himself andafew friends. Word of hishigh qualityworkspread
quickly, and in 1941 Wiseco Piston was established to service
the needs of motorsports enthusiasts.
Today, Wiseco’s corporate headquarters in Mentor, Ohio,
boasts of over 150,000 square feet of state-of-the art forging
and CNC machining equipment. Wiseco also has fully stocked,
strategically located distribution centers within Canada and
Europe to serve markets all over the world.
With our coast to coast domestic distribution system and
international customers in Europe, South America, Africa,
Australia, and Asia, Wiseco is the world leader in the
manufacturing of hi-performance, forged pistons for the
snowmobile, motorcycle, ATV, personal watercraft, outboard
marine and automotive markets.
Wiseco engineers utilize the latest in 3D design and finite
element modeling software to ensure every Wiseco design is
developed to provide the greatest strength and lightest weight
for each application. Our in-house Dyno facility, equipped with
the latest technology, along with our field-testing network,
4. insure that our products meet theexpectationsof the demanding
motorsports industry.
After nearly 70 years in the business, the name Wiseco has
become synonymous with pistons, especially pistons for off-
road racing and riding. Wiseco has attained that instant brand-
recognition by being the only U.S. manufacturer of forged
pistons for the motorsports market, and carry a full line of
applications for just about any 2 or 4-stroke engine you can
think of. But guess what? Pistons are just a part of what Wiseco
has to offer.
With the constantly evolving motorsports market, Wiseco has
remained right at the forefront of technology, developing a
whole catalog full of innovative products. And coming from
Wiseco, you have to know it’s all pure quality – just like our
pistons. What sort of stuff are we talking about? Good things,
everything from forged clutch baskets to stroker cranks and
connecting rods – and of course some very special pistons!
5. Wiseco is focused on continually refining our quality culture
and our associates are dedicated to living up to our Quality
Policy: “To Meet or Exceed Customer Requirements Every
Time.”
Quality, integrity and service are the backbone of Wiseco’s
success. No other piston manufacturer can match Wiseco’s
advanced technology and care for detail. That’s why the top
engine builders and racers in every motorsports industry have
come to appreciate and depend on Wiseco for consistent
winning results.
Wiseco Piston Company, Inc. is pleased to announce that our
quality management system has successfully completed
ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2000 registrationassessment for the
design and forging of performance products for automotive and
recreational vehicles.
"Quality People Building a Quality Product" for nearly 70
years.
6. PLANT LOCATION AND LAYOUT
A 200 acre facility owned by The Amalgamations Group at
Industrial Park Boulevard, Ohio. WESICO began its
manufacturing processes in the sprawling 200 acre facility
owned by The Amalgamations Group at Industrial Park
Boulevard, Ohio. The facility is just an hour drive from
Industrial Park Boulevard, Ohio. This facility houses
WESICO's part of Piston Operations, Entire Piston Ring
Machining Operations, Centrifugal Casting and Machining
Facilities and Administrative functions.
Boulevard, Ohio is rapidly growing as a prominent automobile
market in USA. The development and upgradation of excellent
infrastructure for automobile industry and the existence of a
good number of manufacturing plants are aiding the
development of the Indian Automobile Market in Ohio. The
efficiency and quick service of the administrative sector in
Boulevard in assisting the automobile industry in Ohio are
helping the growth of the automobile sector in Ohio. This is
precisely the reason for the growth of the luxury car market and
the heavy automobile sector in Ohio. The other factors
encouraging the growth of the automobile sector in Ohio are its
competitive automotive and component sector, high literacy
standards, excellent infrastructure, and the availability of ports.
7. The facilities that are available at this location include
Grey Iron Centrifugal Foundry
Aluminum Foundry
Laboratory
Gudgeon Pin Machine Shop
Piston Block and Two Ring Machine Shops
Zero Effluent Chrome Plating plant imported from Goetze,
Germany commissioned by IPL & the Research &
Development Centre
Facility to manufacture Alfin Inserts / Ring carriers for both
captive requirements and outside customers
The facility has the production capacity of
4 million pistons, 20 million Rings & half a million Liners per
annum
Up to 10 million Alfin Inserts per year
10. Material Selection Process:-
• A series of tests to characterize friction and wear of
various materials in a simulated ball piston
engine/compressor were performed to aid in selection
of production materials.
• Another goal of the tests was to explore this machine
could run without lubrication.
• If un lubricated operation was not possible, tests with
instrumentation would be used to confirm the
lubricated operation of the machine and the resulting
internal loads.
• Friction at conventional piston rings, piston pin, and
connecting rod/crankshaft bearing are eliminated ).
The rotor/stator bearing is of a gas or fluid hydrostatic
type, so friction is very low at that site
