Badminton
1. By Jess Greenwood
What is Badminton?
Badminton is a racquet sport, though it does
not require a ball, and uses a shuttlecock to
play. These are the equipment required to
play this sport:
A badminton racquet
A shuttlecock
A net
A wide open space
And 2-4 players
Here is the court:
How
2. to play:
Badminton is a racquet sport played by either
two opposing players(singles) or two
opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions
on opposite halves of a rectangular court that
is divided by a net. Players score points by
striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so
that it passes over the net and lands in their
opponents' half of the court. Each side may
only strike the shuttlecock once before it
passes over the net. A rally ends once the
shuttlecock has struck the floor.
How
Badminton started:
Badminton was invented long ago; a form of
sport played in ancient Greece and Egypt. Badminton
came from a child's game called battledore and
shuttlecock, in which two players hit a feathered
shuttlecock back and forth with tiny rackets. The
game was called "POONA" in India during the 18th
3. Century, and British Army Officers
stationed there took the Indian version
back to England in the 1860's. The army
men introduced the game to friends, but
the new sport was definitely launched there at a
party given in 1873 by the Duke of Beaufort at his
country place, "Badminton" in Gloucestershire.
During that time, the game had no name, but it was
referred to as "The Game of Badminton," and,
thereupon, Badminton became its official name.
Where to play:
To play, you must be on manmade floor. It is
to be hard and non-slip, as some players may
slip and injure themselves.
And now you are ready to play badminton!!!!
ENJOY!!
