XMAS RETAIL SURVEY 2016
This year, ATTEST has surveyed active shoppers to identify the hot trends for
Christmas 2016, to help with your seasonal planning.
What are the
hottest gifts this
year?
Has Brexit
effected
consumer
confidence?
New
consumer
shopping
trends.
What would you like for Christmas?
Question #1
2016 has been a challenging year for
Britain, so we started our report by
looking to find out how people will
treat themselves this Christmas.
Attest asked our respondents, what
would they like for Christmas? The
responses were varied and detailed.
The most popular answers revolved
around clothes (3% of total responses)
and money (7%) with a strong showing
from apple products, particularly the
iPad (2%) and iPhone 7 (1%).
INTRODUCTION

It will come as little surprise that there is a key difference between the genders when it comes
to Christmas gifts. The most popular result amongst men was Money (2%) although there
were many iterations around gaming systems which if grouped together would prove the
most popular and canvas 9% of the responses.
The most popular item amongst women was again Money (4%) followed by clothes (2%) and
Perfume (1%) and a New Car (1%).

retailers can have on the
Christmas gift purchasing process
through Online Advertising, with
12% of respondents citing this as
a principle influence.

People from the South-East
were one of the least likely to
listen to friends
recommendations for gifts
with only 12% listing this as a
principle influence.
In the North-West 19% of
respondents listed friends as a
principle influence.
Will you be buying
your Christmas
presents from the
same brands as last
year?
Question #5
There is a clear increase in loyalty for retailers over brands. Something that could
influence future discussions between brands and retailers as prices are squeezed
this Christmas following Sterling's decrease in value.
