In 2017, Alex joined Harvard University as the Librarian and Director of the Monroe C. Gutman Library at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he is also a Member of the Faculty of Education. He serves on the Harvard Library Leadership Team and on the Library Directors Group. From 2004-2017, Alex served at American University in Washington, DC, as associate director for instruction and research services, curriculum materials and education librarian, and affiliate associate professor of education in the AU School of Education (SOE), where he taught courses on educational technology and children's literature in SOE's teacher education program from 2008-2017.
