Magic tricks are amazing. People are always intrigued and fascinated by them, and they almost always want to know “How did you do that?” Once you know a trick, magicians can’t stop performing them for everyone!
Wild Apricot is a turnkey system – it has a very particular set of features that can be very flexible, but it may not seem like you’re getting everything out of the product.
But magic tricks are still tricks. There’s a technique - a process that is both art and science. Let’s see if I can educate and entertain you with 3 Wild Apricot magic tricks.
All themes come with complementary colour palettes. But most organizations have a style guide and logo which has a specific set of colours. A good design usually maintains a clean look with attention to consistent colouring of all UI elements.
Integrating a consistent set of primary, secondary and tertiary colours into a theme became an issue when we worked with a client who had red as the primary colour with grey/green-blue as secondary/tertiary colours.
The iconic decorations in Bookshelf theme (arrows, dots etc) are stored in an “icon set”. The CSS “exposes” the right icon depending on where they are used.
But what if we want a different colour than white? Denver Ballet Guild needed a consistent theme with their style guide. Changing all the colours through a theme requires CSS and cannot really be easily done without it.
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is your best friend when styling your Wild Apricot website. The starting themes are a good start, but don’t you want to make a site yours? A little about CSS...
It is a way to define how every single element looks on *any* website, not just Wild Apricot. Each button on a website has a class or ID attached and that can be changed to modify the look and feel of every element.
Get filter values for your target colour https://codepen.io/sosuke/pen/Pjoqqp
Filter the icons into black first and then apply the generated filter values to your target HEX colour
Wild Apricot themes can have very complex CSS selectors, so isolating the right set of selectors can take time, but critical.
Talk to use after the presentation for a quick tutorial on CSS.
More complete and accurate way to style a site than the somewhat limited and hard-t—use Colours & Styles feature
CCAT was struggling on how to easily manage translations. Simply not a feature of Wild Apricot!
Note the system labels throughout the site… All need translations, lots of strings, hundreds maybe even thousands depending on what gadgets you use.

WordPress is the “consolidated” front end for all membership directory functionality. WordPress can present one view and leave each chapter to manage their own members, events and financial relationships through Wild Apricot.
