2. The Taj Mahal is one of India’s
most famous land marks and is
one of the seven wonders of the
world! The Taj Mahal is located in
Agra, India on the banks of the
river Yamuna. Mughal Emperor
Shah Jahan had the Taj Mahal built
for his wife he loved so very much.
The years of construction on the
Taj Mahal are from the year of
1631 to the year of 1653. It
spreads over 42 acres of land and
is a huge tourist atraction.
3. The Red Fort was built in the 17th
century by Mughal Emperor Shah
Jahan. It is located in what is now
Delhi, India. In the old days, The
Red Fort was used for the
residence of the Mughal
Emperors. It also was, until 1857,
the capital of the Mughal
Emperors. In 1857,one of the
Mughal emperors, Bahadur Shah
Zafar, was kicked off his native
land by the British Indian
Government which led to it being
turned into a World Heritage Site
in 2007. It took 10 years to build
and lies along the Yamuna River
just like the Taj Mahal.
4. The Lotus Temple, also known
as the Bahá'í House of
Worship, is located in New
Delhi, India and is named “The
Lotus Temple” because of it’s
shape looking exactly like the
Lotus flower, a popular flower in
India. It is known presently as
the Mother Temple and has won
numerous architectural awards.
It opened in December, 1986 and
since then has been a very
famous site to see for tourists
and localists.
5. The Qutub Minar, located in
Delhi, India, is a World
Heritage Site and is built with
marble and red sandstone. It
is the tallest Minaret in
India. It’s height: 237.8 ft tall
(72.5meters). The Qutub
Minar has a diameter of 14.3
meters and has 379 stairs if
you would like to climb it!
This structure is an example
of Indo-Islamic architecture
which it is known for.
6. The India gate was built in 1931 as a
memorial for 90,000 soldiers that
lost their lives fighting for the
Indian Empire. The India gate was
designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens that
was inspired by the Arc de Triomphe
in Paris, France. It’s location is
Delhi, India. Originally, there was a
statue of George V of the Untied
Kingdom under the gate but it was
removed and placed in a park,
Coronation Park. Now, that India
gained independence from the
Untied Kingdom, there is a tomb of
the Indian Army’s Tomb of the
Unknown Soldier that is known as
Amar Jawan Jyoti.
7. India has very many landmarks and
sites but it would take me all day to
name them there are so many!!! The
ones I described today were just a
few that caught my eye. The Taj
Mahal I thought was interesting
because it is one of the seven
wonders of the world! The Lotus
Temple was unique because of its
interesting shape. The India Gate
because of how it is a memorial for
all those soldiers who took their lives
for their country. Again, there are
many more than the ones I put in my
presentation. Hope you’ll get to learn
as much as me about India’s
Landmarks and Historical Sites!!!
