3. Camera
To record and shoot all the footage we had to look for a camera small
enough to fit into a head strap as our film would be in first person, it also
had to record in high quality so we were looking for a camera that could
record in 720p and upwards.
The camera we decided to go with was the QUMOX SJ4000. This camera
met our needs as we quickly discovered that we could record in full HD
1080p , and could mount the camera onto a head strap.
To obtain the footage within our film we mounted the camera to the head
strap and put it on the main characters head in order to give the audience
the effect of seeing everything from the main characters perspective. We
did run into a few problems when trying to record fairly long scenes and
had to try and get them all in one take. For example when the main
character comes out of the elevator until the point he is crouched behind
the wall shooting at the enemy. Through using this camera over time
4. Mobile Phones
Our group used mobile phones to help conduct
research on our filming location and the area around it.
This was done by taking images of the area and using
those to help plan routes on the areas we were going
to film in.
These were used when the cameras the school were
providing were unavailable.
Using the mobile phones meant we could easily
upload/email/bluetooth the images from the phone to
the iMac computers we use in class.
5. Apple IMac
We used the Apple iMac to help conduct our research, blog, upload and edit
our film. Using the iMacs was different from using the usual windows
computer which are located in other parts of the school, due to this it took a
little time to learn how to operate all the new features and options we were
provided with on the iMac.
These machines were a major part in the creation and completion of our
course work, as well as our final film product. They use a number of different
pieces of software, that can be easily run.
Final cut pro was extremely easy to operate on the iMac because it was
designed and built on the Mac system.
The Mac is a lot faster than the average household desktop and holds a lot
more memory, which helped us as we needed a fair amount of memory space
to add different effects and sounds to our film.
6. Blogger
This is the website we used to create and upload our blogs;
that were used to gather our research and planning ideas as
well as our evaluation of our product, and our progression
throughout the media course.
Our blogs could be viewed globally, which lead to some
people getting blogs from countries in Asia, Africa, South
America, and a number of countries in other continents.
Through using this site overtime we learnt how to embed
and upload videos, slideshares, soundclouds and a number
of other things.
7. Slideshare
Slideshare is a online website/software that we used to
upload and embed powerpoint presentations to our
blogs.
This was a new site to me but I quickly found very easy
to run and use; you just go into your documents and
select the powerpoint file you wish to upload, and that
is it done.
8. YouTube
YouTube was one of the most important tools we used
throughout the course. Especially for our research and
planning, YouTube gave us the opportunity to search for
videos that could give us a much deeper and clear
understanding of the action genre as a whole, as well as a
better understanding of the course overall.
We also used YouTube to upload and share our media
product with our target audience, who were also able to
share it easily with their friends and family.
We also used YouTube to get the embed so that we were
able to upload some of our own videos to our blogs.
9. Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro is an editing software we used to edit, change
and improve our project. We mastered the software from
creating mocks of our project and editing them to discover
how to use Final cut Pro to the best of our abilities. Through
hours upon hours of using it we felt we has mastered the
programme enough to make and edit our final film.
The programme is fairly hard to use when new to it but after
a couple of hours of using it, it becomes fairly easy to
understand how to use it properly.
We used this to add the different sound effects to our film as
well as the music and different effects within the film itself.
