“In recent years, mountain bike camps have become increasingly popular as parents look for
a way to not only keep their children entertained, but also offer them exercise, socialization
and the challenge of a new experience.”
For many adults, summer time means a trip down memory lane. Long before there were video games in
every household and smart phone in every pocket, social networking meant pedalling as fast as possible
between neighbourhood houses to see which of the other local children were at home. Now, mountain
bike camps are offering children a chance to go back to a simpler time, with enough edge to keep even
the most modern of children hanging on to the edge of their seat.
All across North America, adventure camps are rapidly gaining popularity. As an alternative to
traditional summer day camps, these adventure camps offer specialized courses in a variety of fields,
from rock climbing to space themes. One of the most popular of these camp alternatives in recent years
has been mountain bike camp.

Mountain bike camps give youngsters a chance to get outside and enjoy the beautiful summer weather,
while offering a variety of instruction ranging from basic safety tips to advanced concepts in downhill
biking and trail riding. Whether a child is a first-time rider or a seasoned veteran, most mountain bike
camps offer an adventure that is both challenging and rewarding.
As with any summer day camp, parents should be prudent in their research before sending their child
off on a supervised adventure. Checking for things such as counselor certifications, safety records, and
previous references are a must, and can make the difference between a fantastic summer adventure
and just another way to kill the time while school is out.For adventure camps specializing in mountain
biking, safety is of particular concern. Look for a clean track record in terms of major incidents, as well as
first-aid and CPR certifications from instructors.

Some mountain bike camps are even based at off-season ski hills, meaning there is no shortage of
options for riders of all skill sets. Beginners will have the option of staying close to the base, using only
the gentlest of declines to hone their skills before graduating further up the mountain, where more
experienced riders can enjoy increasing challenges as well as a variety of obstacles.
With the constant push towards sedentary lifestyles, a refreshing option in kids’ summer day camps can
greatly benefit everyone involved. Kids will enjoy exercise, fresh air and the sense of accomplishment
that comes with taking on a new challenge. Parents can rest easy knowing that their children will share
in at least some of the elements that made their own childhood a carefree and hands-on experience.
