21. Sustainability
Manufacturing: Apple eliminated harmful toxins, including brominated flame
retardants (BFRs), lead, PVCs and mercury, from their products.
Recycling: Apple exceeded their goal of 70 percent worldwide recycling of their
products in 2010. They attempt to use recyclable materials in their products and
packaging where possible.
Product Use: All of Apple’s products exceed ENERGY STAR specifications. Products
labelled ENERGY STAR meet the requirements set forth by the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), which include standards for energy efficiency, energy savings
and quality of efforts. Apple has accomplished this by incorporating energy saving
features into its products.
22. Logo
Designed by Rob Janoff
According to Rob Janoff, the bite on the Apple logo was to really let people know that it was
an apple and not a cherry. The bite also played along with the computer buffs at that time
because it had a similar sound off to the word ‘byte’, a unit of digital information in
computing and telecommunication.
