1. Breed Registry Options
In America, Trakehner’s can be registered with the American
Trakehner Association. Registered horses can participate in
year end awards for horse of the year and USDF/USEF awards.
Registration also shows evidence of lineage, which is very
helpful in marketing and selling of horses. Most buyers pay
attention to a horse’s individual registration and performance
awards so getting Trakehner’s registered is very beneficial to
the selling of horses as well.
In Europe, Trakehner’s can be registered with the Trakehner
Breeders' Fraternity (TBF), which is the controlling body in the
UK. They are licensed by the TrakehnerVerband GmbH in
Germany, which allows them to register, grade and brand
horses in the main stud book. They brand registered
Trakehners with the double Elk horn with the inverted
'V'. Most buyers find the brand very important when looking
at Trakehners from Europe.
2. Registry Requirements
The following are the requirements for registration at the American
Trakehner Association:
1. Owners displaying horses in ATA Inspections are expected to:
Be an Active Member of the ATA
Finish and sign the Application for Inspection
Pay inspection fees prior to the inspection.
2. With the exception of foals and weanlings, all horses are
required to have registration certificates with the breeding
registry. Weanlings have to have at least a registration with a
pending application.
Trakehners, Anglo Trakehners and Arab Trakehners are
required to be registered with the ATA.
3. 4. A negative Coggins test and veterinary health
certificate is required for inspection as well as a
report that the horse shows no sign of infectious
disease.

veterinary exam and have X-rays of the stallion
prior to the inspection.
6. Must meet minimum approval scores.

Smooth topline
Moderately set tail
Deep and broad body
Straight, firm legs that are proportionate with the rest of the body

even, steady and relaxed rhythm without…
Winging
Paddling
Traveling too close or too wide

Three years old or older
Well groomed
Have a bridle with snaps on the reins for ease of release for the "at

Inspection process:
Mares are measured and the inspection is completed before the
next mare is evaluated.
The height, girth and cannon bone are measured
Inspected for conformation while standing on a firm, flat surface.
They are viewed from front, rear, left and right.
Regularity and correctness is judged in hand at the walk and trot
Impulsion and elasticity is judged in hand at the trot on a triangle
Mares are turned loose in a small arena to be judged at the canter
and trot. Mares heavy in foal or lame are excused from this phase.
After the 'at liberty' phase, the marks awarded to the mare and the
decision as to whether or not she is approved or accepted are
announced.
These marks are official and are put on to the registration papers.
