Bullets: (5 clicks) Let me give you an example…of what this looks like… As you can see - two lines end up crossing each other and not aligning…which is ultimately the problem When you deploy a real application across the network …what happens to the network…you either get a network that sits around and not being used effectively… Or you get a network that has heavy demand depending on when an application is being used This will do one of two things…either cause your capital to be stranded because you spend a lot of money to get your network over provisioned or you will have a network that can’t hit peak demands required of it, therefore the network is under provisioned and will have a bad user experience as a result Original notes: The network needs to be dynamic…adaptable to react to user demand and the network – over provisioning – is lost of money/stranded capital and under provisioning – unable to provide what the user needs to run applications or services… Set and forget the network – is no longer going to fly in today’s environment to support mega trends such as cloud, big data, mobility and security…

  21. Finally, we have our Sentinel Security Application that we announced late last year. This application has already been deployed by several customers including HBO that we shared several months ago. Today, we have Greg Bell from Ballarat Grammar school in Australia with us to talk about their deployment of Sentinel. Before we bring Greg on stage, I wanted to give you a quick refresher of this exciting SDN application. The Sentinel Security application works by instructing the HP Virtual Application Networks SDN controller to program the access layer switches using OpenFlow to intercept malicious traffic by working with HP TippingPoint RepDV Reputation Database. The RepDV database contains information of over 1 Million botnet, malware and spyware sites. As you can imagine in a BYOD world, the risk of botnet threats and malware exploits are greater than ever. As they connect to the enterprise network, you want to be able to immediately detect this kind of network activity and throttle that behavior before infection spreads.
  22. HP Reputation Digital Vaccine provides security intelligence feeds from a global reputation database so you can actively enforce and manage reputation based security policies. It will have a data base on malware sites.. Phishing sites.. Compromised hosts.. Botnet and spammers information.
  23. When there is a match found in the RepDV, meaning that it is a site known to host malware, Sentinel generates a custom DNS response. Sentinel can reply with two different types of DNS responses. The first type is a “host not found” response. In this case the client stops trying to resolve the hostname and fails quickly without a timeout. This leads to a better user experience than a timeout. The second type is a redirection. Sentinel can create a DNS reply that points to an internal server. If the original DNS request was due to a browser request, then the user could be redirected to a page that could provide feedback, such as a note that this page has been blocked due to company security policy.
