1. Irbaaz, Ricky, Omar, Marie, Amar and Emanuel Energy Wasting! Food waste! Recycling!
2. What our presentation is about Different environmental issues at Cranford How the environment is damaging our school How we are getting the message across about this problem What is Cranford doing about these issues The sculptures we created Real statistics about these issues and data we collected Who is causing these issues and how they are trying to be prevented Research and information we collected What people around school have to say about Cranford’s environment Our conclusion
3. Rubbish And Recycling at Cranford One of the environmental issues we looked at were recycling. Saujanya, Ricky and Omar went around school and did some research on how good Cranford is at recycling. They took statistics and made a video of the dangers. We found many dangers that are affecting students and wildlife around school such as littering on the field and playground. We had seen many birds eating on the un-recycled material and these could lead to the death of many birds. We also noticed students tripping over and hurting themselves over left of bottles and packets. We were surprised at the fact that hardly any classrooms contained recycle bins so if students wanted to recycle there was no we they could. Also the recycling of paper in classrooms was very poor and scraps of paper were being thrown in the bin or left on the floor. We also found there is a lot of litter and food dumping on the field especially bottles and plastic wrappers.
6. Feedback Positive feedback Art and Science departments recycle their paper waste the most The total number of bottles we found in all classrooms was 1! Departments with the least paper on the floor were Drama, Music, R.E and P.E Negative feedback There are far too many bottles /rubbish on the field and grounds Students should start using rubbish bins more often Only 2 out of 17 bins were full! There is way to much paper and shredded paper in Art, English and Languages departments Laziness ! Look how close the bins are to the table
7. Our Solution to Recycling We could have more bins around the field Reinforce the idea and the use of recycling bins Introduce reward system – e.g. the tutor group with the most amount of paper in the recycling bin gets dream points Avoid use of paper whenever possible (use interactive white boards more often) Making the whole process of recycling and putting rubbish in the bin as a motivating idea (rewards, notifications, competitions) Have more recycling bins in each classroom Use recycle bins to recycle, not as a dump for other things
8. Sculptures The final idea for our sculpture came when the members of our group took their best ideas and pooled them together to create 1 finalised idea that we could all agree on. Our final idea was that we would make a planet resembling the Earth, being consumed in rubbish with a man drowning and crying out for help in it at the top. The planet was also placed on top of a baby to symbolise how the planet is becoming ruined for future generations. Steps in which we made the sculpture We took a large, round balloon and covered it in papier mache. We covered it in blue plastic to resemble oceans and green paper to resemble landmasses. We attached various types of rubbish to the globe along with a small man crying out for help whilst drowning. We made the man by taking paper and cardboard, forming it into the shape of a man and holding it together with glue. We took a jumper and filled it with paper to act as the body of the baby. It is still in development and is yet to be attached but we are getting there.
10. These notes are from the environmental presentation On the next slides ………… Food waste!
11. How we collected it We went to the dining hall and the concert hall at lunch We gathered the bags of wastes and counted them up
12. Lunch time We collected 2 bags of food waste and 2 bags of rubbish This = 4 bags of waste 5 days in a week = 20 bags of waste 6 weeks in a half term = 120 bags of waste 2 half terms in a term =240 bags of waste 3 terms in a year = 720 bags of waste This is only at lunchtime!!! This makes 1080 bags of food and general waste in a year!!!!!! We need to change the way we use the environment.
13. Overall This makes 1080 bags of food and general waste in a year!!!!!! We need to change the way we use the environment.
