1. THEOLOGY OF THE
BODY FOR TEENS
“Y! are beautiful, and y! are loved.”
2. WHAT WILL YOU
LEARN?
In Theology of the Body for Teens, you will discover the
beauty and purpose of one’s sexuality, and why it is such a
major part of our ability to love.
You’ll learn that the Church actually teaches and believes
that human sexuality is really important, and good, and
beautiful.
Human sexuality is actually meant, in a sense, to point us to
heaven.
3. WHAT IS LOVE?
The key to finding the love we are looking for, (the meaning of life/love), is
hidden in God’s original design of our bodies and souls.
Pope John Paul II: “For love is not merely a feeling; it is an act of will that
consists of preferring in a constant manner, the good of others to the good of
oneself.”
What does that mean?
Love is wanting the best for another, over the happiness of oneself.
JPII: “The opposite of love is not hate, but the using of another person.”
4. NAKED WITHOUT
SHAME
When God originally designed us, sexual desire was the
desire to love in the image of God.
Naked without shame vs. shameless:
“Naked without shame” refers to nudity that exists within
the context of innocence, purity of heart, and freedom;
being “shameless” in today’s society refers to flaunting the
body without inhibitions or conscience; it’s what’s left
when sex loses its sacredness and mystery.
5. HOW DOES GOD LOVE?
The four biggest aspects of God’s love are: Free, Total, Faithful and
Fruitful.
These four aspects are a parallel between God’s love for humanity and the love
between a man and a woman.
How God loves:
Free: God’s love is freely given.
Total: God’s love is complete; He gives all of Himself, withholding nothing.
Faithful: God never abandons us and never stops loving us.
Fruitful: God’s love brings us life.
6. FREEDOM EXPLAINED
The real definition of freedom:
The desire and ability to choose the good.
JPII: “Freedom without responsibilities is the opposite of
love.”
Authentic freedom involves accepting and living out the
truth of who we are: children of God, and for what we are
created: love and communion.
Freedom exists for the sake of love.
7. THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE
JPII: “The language of the body is not only a language of
love, but a language of divine love.
The true language of sex says: “I am completely yours. I
belong totally to you.”
Do contraception and pornography live up to God’s love?

8. DID YOU KNOW?
The canopy often built over the altar in Catholic Churches
represents the canopy over a marriage bed!
It reminds us that on the altar during Mass the bride
groom, Christ, gives His body, the Eucharist, to His bride,
the Church, so that we may have eternal life.
Like a husband and wife renew their love and wedding
vows: through their one flesh union on their wedding
bed.
