Dear Friends
Every year after celebrating the New Year, consumer electronics professionals
including manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware,
content, technology delivery systems etc, across the globe converge to attend the
industries largest show CES in Las Vegas. This year is no exception.
CES 2015 promises to be an even bigger show displaying the latest curved 4K TVs,
tablets, smartphones, wearable tech - smartwatches and smart bands, Robots, smart cars,
flying drones, 3D printers, Virtual Reality presented by some of the biggest names and
brands in the industry as well as small and medium sized companies all jostling for the
attention of over 1,70,000 visitors and 6000 + journalists.
Solar power is becoming increasingly popular with individuals, corporate and
governments. The main benefit of solar energy that it can be easily deployed by both
home and business users as it does not require any huge set up like in case of wind and
geothermal power stations. Solar energy not only benefits individual owners, but also
benefit environment as well. Solar energy also benefits the environment - it does not
pollute the earth the way other energy sources do and it is silent. Solar energy is clean,
reliable and renewable source of electricity. It does not pollute the air by releasing
harmful gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and sulphur oxide. Solar energy does
not require and fuel and thus avoid the problems of transportation of fuel or the storage
of radioactive waste.
As solar energy gains prominence in India and across the globe, we thought it the right
time to catch up with Kunwer Sachdeva Founder & MD, Su-Kam Power Systems – a
company driven by innovations. Popularly addressed as the `Inverter man of India’
Kunwer created the first ever R&D center in the power back up industry. He is now
concentrating on the solar market.
We have also focused on Climate Change. According to the 2015 Climate Change
Performance Index (CCPI) report, after China and the US, India is the world’s third
largest producer of the greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change – although it is
responsible for only about 6% of such emissions globally. The CCPI, put out by German
Watch and the Climate Action Network feels India has fared well - India has climbed five
spots and is ranked 31st in the CCPI table.
For mobiles and tablets India is one of the most potential markets. Costing is a major
factor and keeping that in mind many Indians have ventured into the manufacturing
segment. Few have tasted success as consumers are price sensitive but also would like to
have good quality. Understanding this specific combination – reasonable price with good
quality Swipe Telecom has been quite successful in the Indian market. We e - interacted
with Shripal Gandhi, Founder and CEO, Swipe Telecom.
The the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) World Conference,
informally known as the ‘tech park Olympics’due to its size and significance in the global
science community is one of the premier knowledge-sharing forums in the world of
science and technology parks, facilitating cooperation and collaboration among the
planet’s leading research and innovation facilities. The IASP World Conference is staged
in a different country every year, with the organizing nation elected two years in advance.
The bid for 2016 IASP World Conference hosting rights was won by the Skolkovo
Foundation alongside Moscow State University Science Park, Technopark Strogino and
the Innovation Development Center of Moscow. Presented as a group bid, the four
Russian venues beat the Netherlands’ Utrecht Science Park and Teknopark Istanbul for
2016 hosting rights when voted on at IASP 2014 in Doha, Qatar.
