The importance of new years resolutions
1. The Importance Of New Year’s Resolutions
The New Year is quickly approaching and the idea of a “fresh start” is usually more
than enough of a boost to push people into making beneficial changes in their lives. I
grew up in Canada where the idea of creating New Year’s resolutions before the ball
drops was an extremely common practice, but afterI moved to Florida, I realized not
many people were familiar with this idea.
A New Year’s resolution is basically a goal that you set foryourself at the beginning
of each ear to reach. Many people actually seize this opportunity to make an attempt
at getting rid of a bad habit such as smoking or drinking. Others use it as a chance to
lose weight and eat healthier. But it can be anything you canthink of. Forexample, I
used to have a bad habit of littering every once in a while (nothing too major, maybe
a straw wrapper here and there), so I resolved to never litter again as my New Year’s
resolution last year. And today I’m proud to say I have faithfully been litter-free for
almost an entire year now.
Some may ask what is the significance of New Year’s day that we must make a
resolution at that point in time rather than any other random day. The answer to
that is there is no significance. Anyone can make beneficial changes to their life at
any time but the majority of society needs a “reality check” orspecial holiday to
remind them that time is winding down and they should start making changes for
the better—and New Year’s time is perfect forjust that.
But why is having a New Year’s resolution so important anyways? After all there is a
certain percentage of the world who feel as though they are where they want to be
and think that no changes should be made. Or is there? Think about it this way: there
are 60 minutes in each hour and 24 hours in each day—meaning there are 1440
minutes eachday. Now how many of these minutes do you use out of you day to
examine yourself?
I’m not talking about just glancing at the mirror, I’m talking about deep
introspection, the measurement of your happiness/sorrow, making sure you are on
the right track forwhere you want to be in life, making sure you still have that
powerful zeal forlife, etc. Probably not many. This means that days, months and
years go by and people never make positive changes in their life because they never
take the time to realize that changes should be made in the first place.
2. Many of us are too busy chasing after this or that thing that we are rarely even
conscious of our own breath, let alone our physical, mental and emotional states. Of
course, daily examination of life would be ideal but that may be too much to ask
from people the se days which is why this examination is absolutely vital at least
once per year.
Find out what’s wrong in your life and make the resolution to change it, orthink of a
goal you’d like to reach and continue to pour forth your will power until that goal has
been reached. Make the resolve at the beginning of each year to be a better, happier
individual you were last year and verbally affirm your resolution with confidence!
Because remember, if you aren’t becoming happier with eachday then you are doing
something wrong!
