A smooth, silky texture brings flavors of black currant, blueberry, mocha, and vanilla cream. The finish is cool and velvety, with hints of blackberry and clove spice. Our 2006 Merlot and other wines showcase the flavors of our estate Margarita Vineyard, the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles wine country. Paso Robles is regarded as one of the top California wine regions. The 2006 Merlot wine comes from our Merlot block at Margarita Vineyard. Here, daily operations of our Merlot vineyards include numerous sustainable practices, including deficit irrigation, natural cover crops, wildlife corridors and rotational groundwater usage. This Merlot vineyard was originally planted by Robert Mondavi. The current owners of the vineyard, who are also the owners of Ancient Peaks, are longtime California wine growers. This 2006 Merlot red wine reflects the exquisite terroir of the vineyard, which is defined by complex, fossil-rich soils and marine air that creates one of the coolest growing locations in the Paso Robles wine country. This fine wine boasts soft, velvety black fruit flavors, and was given a Merlot rating of 88 points by the Wine Spectator. This vintage is a blended wine that includes Malbec (5%). 4. 2006 Syrah Wine Club www.ancientpeaks.com Warm plum and spice aromas with smoky-earthy nuances. The palate bursts forth with bright rounded flavors of black cherry, plum, cola, and mocha. The finish lingers with long fruit and supple tannins. Our 2007 Syrah comes from the Syrah vineyard blocks at our estate Margarita Vineyard. This is the southernmost of the Syrah vineyards in the Paso Robles appellation, and one of just a handful of Paso Robles vineyards within 15 miles of the ocean. The 2007 Syrah wine begins with luscious aromas of blueberry, cherry and toasty oak with accents of mint. The palate is deep and velvety, unfolding with chewy flavors of blackberry, cinnamon and dark chocolate. California Syrah is a relative newcomer compared to Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Syrah is a Rhône varietal that that hails from France. It also popular in Australia, where it called Shiraz and where it is often blended to make Cabernet Shiraz and even Syrah Merlot. Red wine Syrah is truly an international wine. Syrah wines started gaining momentum in California in the mid 1990s, and have proven to be a perfect fit for Paso Robles. Syrah in California is now the state’s fifth most planted red varietal.
