RED4 TESTER INSTRUCTION 
1. Introduction: 
With the development of electronic technology and people to improve vehicle 
emissions target, a new type of diesel engine high-pressure pump is going into the 
market in a growing number, which is electronically control high pressure diesel 
pump. The difference of this kind pump with the past mechanical high-pressure pump 
is regulating mechanism and pre-stroke adjusting mechanism. Ordinary mechanical 
pump uses flyweight and its centrifugal force to realize regulating speed. However, 
pre-stroke realizes it by adjusting the gasket. Electronically control high-pressure 
pump achieves speed regulating by using electromagnets or DC motor. Signal size can 
change amount of fuel injection. Pre-stroke realizes function by increasing control set 
on plunger or solenoid valve control cavity pressure (VE pump), which is also entirely 
controlled by signal size. Here, we only introduce electronically control high pressure 
line pump structure, principles and maintenance. 
2. Structure and working principle of RED4 governor 
Electron speed regulator on electrically control line pump mainly has 2 kinds: RED3 
and RED4. Diesel Machine Co., Ltd of Japan has introduced RED3 electron speed 
regulator which is used on inline type synthesis pump s early as 1983. Thereafter, they 
developed RED4 type electron speed regulator. 
RED4 type electron speed regulator can be variable speed governor, polarized governor, or a 
combination of both types. Type of work unit within the conversion process is determined. 
Therefore, RED4 electronic governor as a general-purpose electronic governor, when 
applicable, can be applied to trucks, buses, power generation equipment, 
engineering machinery and fire vehicles and other occasion. 
RED4 electronic governor is the main constituent parts: housing, actuators, and cover. 
Relative RED3 electronic governor system, RED4 type governor control circ uit, 
servo circuit, driver circuit, sensing circuit - arranged in the governor's 
executive body, the outside noise is very small. 
Electronic Control Unit is equipped with a RED (RED3 or RED4) series of
electronic governor ’s line pump system, through computer-controlled direct fuel 
injection pump diesel engine volume. The system is characterized by: to ensure straight pump 
diesel engine, low fuel consumption, and can improve diesel engine emissions. 
RED4 electronic governor control section can be divided into three parts: the input unit, 
calculation unit and drive unit. 
1) Input unit 
The various sensors and switches the output of information into the control unit, the calculat ion of 
information processing, information provided to the calculus as the basic unit. 
2) Calculation unit 
In the calculation unit to input information based on data from the ROM and compare the 
calculation process and the final result of information as the executing agency of 
the control information output drive unit. 
3) Drive unit 
Drive unit to the actuator control information (information about the target gear shift lever) 
into the actuator driver information, the executing agency action, the gear lever position 
sensor control, and always make the same target. The conduct of a series of continuous process, 
so you can always guarantee the best fuel injection engine in the state. RED3 and RED4 
comparison of electronic governor 
1. Control System Comparison 
Relative RED3 electronic governor is, RED4 electronic governor servo circuit, drive circuit and 
sensor circuits are arranged on the inside. After receiving informat ion from the servo circuit, 
after processing, linear DC motor drive. 
For the specific meaning of terms and codes are as follows: 
PWM: pulse width modulator (pulse width modulator) 
Duty Cycle: The cycle of a pulse signal, ON proportion of the signal

CPU: central processing unit 
Servo circuit: the so-called tracking servo is, the target and actual values are compared, their

2. RED4 electronic governor ’s main components are: After the shell, the actuator and housing. 
1 actuator 
By the linear DC motor actuators, the movement passed to regulate tooth rod connecting rod, 
adjust the gear lever position detection sensors and other components. 
2 linear DC motor 
Linear DC motor from the cover, magnet, coil assembly and electrode 
composition. Magnet form the magnetic field, the cover is to effectively guide the magnetic field 
to form a magnetic path. Magnetic field coil assembly of the wires in the power, through 
interaction, to accept the force up and down movement. 
3. Stop the oil lever

4 gear lever position sensor 
Gear lever position sensor installed in the upper part of the governor, the target

displacement sensor chip by the E-shaped, two groups of coils and copper components. Install a 
copper rod in the regulation of gear end, and the other fixed on the E-shaped chip. 
5 Speed Sensors 
Speed sensor is the role of detection and control of essential parameters - engine speed, mainly 
by the electrodes, coils and magnets. 
Work 
1 actuator 
Linear DC motor according to the servo circuit from the regulator output driver information so 
that the coil assembly moves up and down Installed in the connecting rod within the 
coil assembly, the coil assembly moves up and down regulation delivered to the gear lever 
mounted on the end of the connector, so adjust the gear lever and move around to adjust the fuel

adjust the gear lever to increase the oil's move; the other hand, if the 
downward movement of the coil assembly, then adjust the gear lever to reduce the oil's direction. 
Its working principle is to move up and down motion of the left lateral movement. 
In the regulation of gear lever upper end of the connector installed in a copper, as part of the 
sensor gear lever. By the gear lever gear lever sensor detects the actual position of adjustment, the 
control unit to provide feedback control. Control unit is always kept relatively calculus 
target and actual position, and keep the difference as to the "0" Pull the gear lever adjustment. 
Therefore, the gear lever sensor accuracy, response is very important. 
2 linear DC motor 
Linear DC motor works and the same rotary motor, the current "I" flows 
through the magnetic field "B", the force "F" work. The amount of the

middle finger pointing to the magnetic field "B", then the index finger is the current

3 gear lever position sensor

errors caused by temperature, improve the accuracy. 
4 Speed Sensor

the magnetic field produces a small circle line voltage, the voltage changes as the speed signal can 
be detected. 
5. Stop the oil lever

1 governor test 
RED3 and RED4 structure is basically the same, the first governor to open the lid to see whether

Connect RED4 governor and RED4 control box, manual adjustment of the

2 pump test

3 oil pump test 
On the high pressure pump test bench, connected RED4 control box and pump, according to the

2. Button Instructions: 
1. “ Select” Button: When the corresponding indicator light turns off, press 
“↑” “↓”button to adjust PWM value “5%-95%”; while the corresponding indicator 
light turn on, press “↑” “↓”button to choose 4 kinds of pre-set : 5%, 16.25%, 72.5%, 95% 
2. “ RED4 POWER”: The Oil ajusting speed device switch, when it light effective. 
3. “ Limp home” Fixed speed switch, while the lamp light, PWM value is “95%” 
4. “ Pull Down” switch, When the lamp light, PWM value is “5%” 
5. “ Menu” “ Enter” Menu Operating: it can change the controller and run the program. Before 
left factory, all the data have pre-set well, don’t change it by any way, and leads to abnormal 
usage. 
3. Usage Instructions:
Connect the oil pump adjusting speed device through the cables along with 
test EDC itself, Open the power switch, then open “ RED4 Power”, the 
corresponding indicator lamp will be light, display will show “ 00.00”, it can 
adjust the throttle up and down through the arrow “↑” “↓”. Close the “ RED4 
POWER’ switch, oil pump power off.

  • 1. RED4 TESTER INSTRUCTION 1.
